Cruise lights

Postby paulheritage » 27 Sep 2011 00:59

Not sure I've mentioned before in this forum but I've been looking for some time for information regarding front cruise lights.

About 17/18 years ago I bought a pair of front amber cruise lights where the bolts are mounted at the rear i.e. the bolt/screw is not visible externally. I've never seen these before or since and never got to the bottom of why/how they existed. I know early red ones are mounted internally but never amber.

Anyone else got similar amber lights or knowledge ?

Are they genuine B.L. items or could they be after market items that happen to fit? I seem to recall that the Japanese markets were hypersensitive about imperfections on light lenses and I have heard stories of (relatively few) cars imported into Japan from the U.K. in the 80's having to have all the manufacturers and approval markings sanded / polished off before they entered Japan. This is anecdotal, so I'm not sure if it is true, but I guess a pair of screws in the middle of a light lens may be regarded as an imperfection, so this may be one explanation. Regards, supercass

Pleased someone else has seen some (Chris). I assumed they were early US versions but never seen reference to them anywhere.

They would certainly look neater without the screws on view. I wonder if the lugs went the same way as those on many of the rear lights, i.e. broke off, so the design was changed. supercass

They were changed to make them easier to fit on the line.

I've got one front amber light like that, Paul - I did have a pair but somehow seem to have managed to loose the other one!

They are genuine BL, AFAIK they were only fitted to early cars. They do look neater though.

If anyone has a spare in good condition I would be happy to buy it to make up a my pair again!
