I went to change my oil the other day so I took the car into town to warm up the oil. I knew I had several jugs (4.4 litres) of 20W-50 oil anf three oil filters from last Rimmers order of a few years ago. After draining oil and removing oil canister I opened Crossland oil filter box...Oh No, it's spin on...same with second....same with third! Normally I check items when they come in but obviously didn't this time. So I phone Duncan Auto and got a young girl. OK I thought this should be fun. "I want a cartridge oil filter for a Triumph TR7" What's the make?" ..."Triumph" I say. "Never heard of it" she said. "That's probably because they haven't been made fore thirty years". That was well before she was born, before the two Great Wars....(Gulf War I and Gulf War II).
I could hear her shout out "Were do I look to find an oil filter for a Triumph TR7 motorcycle?" She had connected the name Triumph and motorcycle. "It's an automobile!" I shouted into the phone so she could hear. "Look in the old book" I heard them tell her. She got the number and I had her check by cross referencing the Crossland number I had to make sure it didn't match hers so I wasn't getting another spin on. Check. Be there next day which was necessary as after that it was supposed to rsin and the car was up on ramps and I didn't want to put up the roof if I could help it. Next day I got the filter, put in the oil and balance (1/2) of STP bottle.
The oil filter I got was a WIX (best in oil filter tests) #51184 and costs me (with my cash discount account) $10.56 including taxes (what I previously paid for Crossland oil filter years ago) for those who want the best and still use cartridge.
Some year I may put on my red plaid dress (kilt to you Scots) convert Yellow TCT and use the spin ones.[:D]
