Electrical issues

Well, been putting off the growing list of electrical problems but the recent failure of the temperature gauge, and this week the headlights main beam and raise having stopped really means getting started on them today.

Problems that need sorting:
<ul>
<li>Headlights not raising or coming on
(I've already checked the headlight switch)</li>
<li>Temp. gauge not working
(Tried grounding the cable that goes to the transmitter but gauge doesn't move, and also replaced the gauge)</li>
<li>Not all dashboard lights working
(Already took the pod out and checked/replaced bulbs, replaced the wiring sheet because noticed one of the lines was burnt)</li>
<li>Boot lights not coming on</li>
</ul>
busy weekend...

Well that turned out to be easier than expected!

Turns out the new spare headlight switch had the same issue as the one I took out. Just cleaned all the contacts on the original one and lights working as normal again. Just shows that some new items can be problematic after sat on a shelf for years.

As for the temp. gauge it turns out the spare gauge doesn't work and after replacing the wire from the sensor to the dash and putting the original gauge back in has resolved the problem.

Also cleaned the contacts in the boot and replaced the bulb and everything working there as well.

One thing that has helped diagnose problems is having a spare full loom meaning I can check the wiring diagram and see what it looks like on the spare loom before looking at the car itself.

Be careful of boot lights that come on - they don't always go off! Many have come back to a flat battery from this.

Commiserations On the way home from our bi-annual concours last Sunday one indicator worked but ceased to flash. the temperature gauge suddenly went from a quarter to maximum for about 100m & the came back. I discovered yesterday that I have a mouse in the wiring & that the hazards only work on one side. The same side as the non working indicator. First job is to catch the mouse before it does more damage & then start the fun
