tex mirrors

I used the Tex mirrors that are sold As a replacement mirror for our 7 s. How do you keep them from falling off? The plinth is such a crappy plastic. The mirror is held in place with a crappy set screw. Everytime I take my car cover off or try to adjust it it falls off!

I had the same problem with the TEX mirrors on my car. I replaced them with some rectanglular universal mirrors from Napa Auto Parts. They work a lot better.

My problem stemmed more from the way the mirrors are designed. The stem mounts to the end of the mirror section so there is a lot of leverage against the adjustment pivot.

I could not get the ball pivot tight enough so that removing the cover would not rotate the mirror.

I seem to be lucky, orignal mirrors to spare.

The Spitfire has chrome Tex mirrors bought about 10 yrs ago, my spares Spitfire had OEM as does the TR.

Problem was getting covex mirrors, I have 3 atm need another but I think they are available.

The modern TEX needs to be combined with parts from your old oem Wedge mirrors! That solves all the problems...

You take the part that sits inside the door, and the angle piece from the old oem mirror. Then you fabricate the stem holder yourself
- out of solid metal. Actually there were FOUR different holders (see picture) used over the years - and the <u>only one</u> that do work
as intended (meaning for the forseeable future!) is the solid one (bottom right in the picture collection below). But they are few
and far between:

And then finally you get yourself a stem from the seventies for the passenger side mirror - they have the pivot attachement point
for the mirror head roughly half an inch further back as compared to the present day TEX. Then you finish it all off with the modern
TEX mirror head, preferably with the convex anti-dazzle glass, since they have a much better design when it comes to the pivot
mechanism. Done, problem(s) solved...

As you see - I liked this subject, since I've been there done that got the tee-shirt etc... [:D]
And not just once but twice; both on dads black TR7V8 and my midas TR8... Here's some more pictures:

Odd, do you recommend just taking the OEM mirror and adding the new glass?

It's doable, and an improvement - but the trim ring is different for the convex glass.

Ah... I misunderstood you - I thought you asked about fitting ANY cut to fit shape convex glass.

Yes, in the TEX replacement glass pack is the convex anti dazzle glass itself with the foam
rubber tensioning pieces on the back AND the black trim ring that locks the glass in place.
Should be a worthwhile retrofit.

I got a set of replacement glass for Christmas (one flat, one convex). Very easy to change out, and a nice improvement.
