Personally I prefer the idea of getting rid of road tax completely and putting it on fuel duty. This means no more tax dodgers, no more police time tracking them down, no more need for people at DVLC managing it, fuel effiecnt cars pay less tax as the goverment wants and the gas guzzlers paying more.

<font face="Century Gothic"><font color="purple">Complete concurrence! After a fairly barren year last year TRisha's covered around 2.5k miles for business journeys since April, and will do a few more yet.
I believe Cameron (or Govt Spokesman) did commit to reviewing the exemption but said it would not be practical/prudent to do so in the current financial climate.
Let's hope it is seriously reviewed - I have numerous people this year convey their disbelief that I still have to pay car tax on a 34yr old motor.
