Here you can even build your own car as the guy next to me on Sunday's car show did, building a Super 7 from plans from the internet using Alfa Romeo engine/drive train. Classed as a U-built he did have to get his welding on the frame inspected to assure it was structurally sound.

You gotta really move NORTH if you want to be free from regulations. We don't need no welds to hold our cars together here in Alaska; we got DUCT TAPE....

In Cali it used to be that after 30 years a car was freed from the emissions regs which made a lot of older cars more interesting. Now if it's newer than 1975 it MUST be just like the picture in the book and the systems have to work. We tried and failed to stop this change at the legislature. Just no support for classic cars at all. The only wiggle room is you can substitute an alternative engine that was an option in that year. I have been told this is one way to drop a Rover V8 into a later MGB but I've never seen that. Plus I don't like the rubber nose B's so who cares. In Cali a TR7 came with the slant 4, low compression pistons, and strangled carbs and that's about all you can choose from. It's why I wanted the late FI equipped car. At least I don't have to deal with a strangled carb system.
