Rally type front spoiler

Hi Guys,

Does anybody have any tips or websites with any info as to the fitting of a front rally spoiler, I am about to order one of the following;

Hi Stan,

I've seen some lovely examples blended in to the front wings.

Unfortunately, they later clipped some speed humps or kerbs and fractured where they were bonded to the sheet metal. As you say, it pays to do it properly. Robsport are the sellers so Simon and Rob may have the info on the the most robust method.

As there is a fair chance you hit something with them I bolted them to the car.

I used stainless steel dome shaped bolts,
the seam between spoiler and front wing was filled with black glue/sealant

My advice is to say that in my experience none fit as they come.

My DHC front applied was from S&S and blended in by the company who restored and painted the body back in 1996 and still looking as it was back then.

When I purchased a FHC earlier this year it came with an unfitted front spoiler that appeared at first to require quite a bit of tweaking. I therefore purchased another from S&S which was an even worse fit. I then tried to install the original and this time it seemed to only need some cutting to the ends. This one is a Robsport one I believe.

The summary is that the fitment depends on the style, the supplier and when manufactured.

You can see my cars at www.triumph-cars.co.uk and the difference (hopefully) between the rounded type from S&S on the DHC (spoiler purchase around 1995) which needed blending in, and the more square version with dummy brake cooling indents on the FHC rally car purchased from Robsport (i was told by the previous owner).

I fitted the sides like Beans (on his recommendation). I also made 2 aluminum brackets to hold the center in place. They are fastened to the cars factory bit then just wedged into the rolled lip on the underside of the spoiler. They also hold it down in a more suitable position. I beleive Beans fastened the middle of his with a cable tie so it would just shear off if a curb was hit.
And like Paul said they need a bit of work to fit. Mine needed a bit more work then usual since they cut it in half to ship it.

Indeed only one cable tie in the centre.
While driving the centre of the spoiler is pushed down, so no need to fixate it to much.

Its one of my winter projects I have planned just wanted a bit of info before i order the spoiler.[:)]

The later rally spoiler is supposed to aid cooling by deflecting air towards the radiator.

May look good but just sitting there waiting for the first bit of inattention when it makes contact with the inevitable concrete strips/blocks they like to put in parking lots. I'll stick to the original air dam, it's got enough scrapes and bruises as it is.

That's correct, when I first fitted the spoiler to the DHC a few years ago (5 min. job) it ran slightly cooler on the temp gauge afterwards.

Actually the later rally spoiler has much more ground clearance than the original BL front spoiler.

Only having no front spoiler gives more clearance [;)]

Hi,

I agree with my learned friend Paul, they tend not to fit that well without a certain amount of reworking. I fitted mine with coutersunk screws and skimmed with filler to blend in.

It certainly seams to improve cooling and does not hurt high speed stabilty.
