Magnecor leads

Postby macmattom » 14 Jul 2011 07:04

<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2">I firmly believe in credit where credit's due, and so I thought I'd share with you my experience with Magnecor .

I recently purchased a set of their kv85 leads for my 8V engine (because they were red, which matched the engine bay detailing!). They arrived promptly and looked the business. I then subsequently forgot to put the connecting drive-rod from the dizzy to the oil pump, so when I started the engine I did it no favours. I decided to bite the bullet and remove the 8V engine and replace it with a 16V spare I had.

As I hadn't used the Magnecor leads, I contacted the company directly and asked if they would take them back and swap them for a set for the 16V. Phil was brilliant; the help and support he gave me was way beyond what I had expected. Nothing was too much trouble and he agreed to do the swap for a minimal handling fee and put the 8V leads back on the shelf. I can't thank him enough, but can try.

I just want to say a really big thanks to Magnecor and Phil for being so helpful, and would recommend them to anybody. His knowledge and patience certainly made up for my inexperience and I hope to have the engine running very soon (different story - took the head off for a look-see and discovered a crack piston!).

Anyway, thanks Phil, much appreciated.<font color="blue"></font id="blue"></font id="size2"></font id="Comic Sans MS">

Mac, I too had similar experiences with Magnecor.

I bought a set for the V8 and fitted them, 12 months later I swapped the distributor over from the standard Lucas one to a Mallory unit which needs HEI style fitting at the distributor end (basically spark plug fittings on the distributor cap).

I removed the whole set of Magnecor leads and sent them back to Phil at Magnecor who for a minimal labout and parts cost modified my set of leads to fit the new dizzy.

Really helpful and supportive, mainly due to them being a little cottage industry style business on an industrial estate in the UK.

Gee. I should do something about mine then.
After installing them and finishing a top end rebuild I started it and had a clacking noise. I pull a couple of leads off the plugs to find the cylinder and and the end came off one and pulled loose on another. I was even using a boot puller.
Tried to fix one but never new if they where correct or not.
