Finally installed the last of the Xmas presents

I finally got the new shift bushings and short shifter that I got for Xmas. I knew that the bushings were bad, but had no clue that they were missing entirely. Someone had put a larger nut over the lower bolts so that it was kind of acting like a bushing. There was nothing on the top bolts. Anyway, it's going to take a bit of getting used to. The action is tight and throws are short. It almost seems like a different car. All I have left, that I can afford right now, is to finish installing the new top and putting the passenger side door back together. The interior may have to wait another year or two.

I just replaced my shifter bushings, too. Only the top right had them left, the rest were also missing. Makes a big difference when the shifter housing can't flop around!

I'd like to go to the short shifter too, but I don't want to send mine out to be shortened. I think everyone is requiring that now.

My bushings were gone too. Went from stirring porridge to nice tight. I like the longer throw with it's better "feel". Would I like shorter throw? Don't know. Might be an advantage if it gave more clearance to GPS or phone charger.

luckily, when I installed mine, I used a service pit - I can't imagine what that would have been like with a floor jack, not with my belly.

I think it would give you a bit more room, but the charger would still be close. Not only is the shifter shorter, it is missing the bend that the original one had near the bottom.

you have some bendy fingers. I had the pit in my old workshop, so I used it. Was really nice for the shifter bushings, reverse switch, and exhaust. but, now it's gone. I left it in West Virginia. I have to save my pennies for a lift, now.

I did end up using some long needle-nose pliers to get the top left one in. The rest took a fair bit of contortion, but it is possible.

I dropped the top left one about a dozen times. Once I spent 10 minutes looking for it only to find it on the cross-member. My fingers may be permanently bendy now.
