Cotswold Classic and Sports Run 2011

Postby prlee » 03 Jul 2011 20:10

Today was the 4th Cotswold Classic and Sports Car Run, its the 3rd one we have been one, the first with the TR7 the others being with the Spitfire.

The runs always start and finish at the Forest Green Rovers football ground in Nailsworth starting with breakfast and finishing with a dinner in the afternoon. Its organised by a local branch of the Rotary club and all proceeds go the charities.

The runs mainly travel around the backroads of Gloucestershire, some of them being very narrow and rough [:(!]

It is open to classic and older cars and sports cars upto present. Today had a record turnout out of 63 cars and one classic motorbike, these included prewar cars such as Lea Francis, a vintage Rolls, Alvis, Austin and HRG, post war cars included MG, Lotus, Jaguar, Ford, Aston Martin, Nissan and MX5. Triumph was represented by a couple of Stags, Spitfires and 4 TRs 2 of which were TR7s (including mine) Turned out the other TR7 lives only a few hundred yards away and getting out of the passenger side was Steve Redway of the TR register.

Anyway todays run was a 70mile trip to Bowood house for lunch and a 37mile trip back. It included a trip through the vale of the white horse around Pewsey so some excellent scenery.

Heres some pics.

A lovely day for a trip around a lovely part of the world. Let's hope the event continues to grow in popularity.

Breakfast & dinner as well - very civilised!

I live locally but didn't see any publicity for the run. It would have been a nice day to bring the TR7 along.
Any chance of publishing details on the forum for next year?

Russ, I haven't seen the run advertised either, it seems to spread by word of mouth and to local car clubs. We were introduced to it by the owner of a local garage my eldest daugther use to work for. It is organised by the Dursley Rotary club.

We were contacted only a few weeks ago about this year as an email went astray. I should get a email in Jan or Feb next year so can post about it then.

There are some other local runs, a guy at this run was looking for people to join the Bristol and Bath Classic Car Run 10th July, he is Bill Phillips on 0117 962 4867. We are off on holiday so can't go but he asked us to pass the invite on.

There was a run passing though Wotton-under-Edge the previous weekend, don't which one its was, may the Sodbury run I have heard of.

The Dursley Lions run the event. Graham the proprietor of the Ford Bear Street garage in Wotton under Edge is involved. Pop in and get on the list for next year. If I had a clue as to how to include pictures in my postings I would add a picture of Carline's TR7, but as I don't I won't.
Cheers

Hi Steve, good to meet you and Caroline yesterday. Sorry to correct you but it is the Dursley Rotary Club, the Dursley Lions organise the Frocester Beer festival.

Sorry I didn't take any Photos of Caroline's car, or any of mine, in the middle of taking photos and everyone started leaving.

Just checked, the run I saw the other week was the Chipping Sodbury run organised by the Sodbury Rotary club - might try and get on that next year, over 150 cars [8D]

Yep, you are right Pete, and good to meet you and your lady at the run. Lovely weather and a great route too, the Sunday lunch wasn't bad either. Maybe we need an Avon/Gloucestershire wedge meeting occasionally so we might all meet up and look under each others bonnets, there seems to be a few WUE/Dursley wedgies on this forum.
Re my stupid picture question:I see that you cannot just drop pictures into topics, they have to link to "another site", so that's me out for picture posting then.
Steve,
PS watch out for the vibration article in TRaction in the near future, it may be of assistance to you Pete.

hi Steve - there does seem to be a few wedges about around here, have you seen the one half buried in undergrowth at the garage in North nibley, its been there at leat 15 years.

As for posting pics I use photobucket and resize the pic and post as per instruction at the top of this forum.

The vibration seems less since the halfshaft was replaced, or rather less through the seat so I seem to be making some progress.

Does the TR register still meet at Hunters Hall? was put off because not sure of the TR7 welcome - still negative comments out there, had one or to at the run on Sunday, sad.

Would be interested in seeing the Grinnal [8D]

Reply to a couple of points,
Yes the TR Register do still meet at Hunters Hall on the 3rd Thursday of every month. TR7's seem to be welcome as they seem happy to talk to me and the local group leader Andy Smith has a couple himself!
..................
I know Graham at Bear Street Garage as he used to help me with bits for me Sierra Cosworth rally car so I will be knocking on his door again to get included on their invite list.
