LED Lights

Hi All, I have recently purchased LED lights for my TR7 and having replaced the interior door lights with Bright White LED Festoons and being really pleased I decided to order LEDS for the rest of the car.

Having just replaced the back Brake/Indicator/Reversing lights on one side and comparing them to the opposite side I'm really disappointed to see that the normal bulbs are actually brighter?

I will go and replace All the lights around the car to LEDs to see if this makes a difference to the brightness but has anyone else had the same problem or know if there is an issue with running Bulbs and Leds together?

Hi Bozz, there are several threads on this subject.

Do a search for LED and you should find out all you need.

yep heaps of threads but your key problems are probably:

1. You must use the same colour LED as the lens eg not a white LED behind a red brake light lens cover (Some problem with the wave length of the light from an LED I think)

2. LED light is directional and the lamp holders in the brake, indicator etc tail light assembly are angled to one side. You either need an LED lamp that points sideways or have to customise it some other way.

Or use the correct design LED bulbs for our awkward rear lights:

No problems then. And fully reversible should you change your mind...

If you buy the two-filament bulb holders E99996 from Tex Automotive you can double up (and cross feed!) the rear
lights. This makes fitting both brake and rear lights in both red positions possible. And cross-feeding the lights take
final care of that built-in risk of ending up one-eyed if a rear light fuse blows. In my '8 I cross fed the outer right light
and the inner left one - and vice verse...

Which ask's the question can Led high level brake lights be used for Fog lamps as that would tidy up the back

Well John my mot guy said it's absolutely fine and passed me

I know what i did with the back lights was a bit extreme

but you do see a big difference, as with anything I do with the car

I buy spare units in this case rear light units and convert them and keep the original

How does the following LED technology compare to the one shown by ODD?

They claim that this unit is just as bright as the 57 LED unit, what is the truth????

The led light will need to be red / orange not white

it might very well be the truth. Red for brake light and rear light, amber for direction indicator
and white for reverse...
