Upgraded headlight harness

So I installed the uprated headlight harness from Vic Brit today and now I have 1 bright light and one very dim. I can't make sense of it.

It's laid out just like this, minus the fuses, and the power wires (87) are doubled up coming right out of the relays.

I did check all the wires for proper connections and they all looked ok. Any ideas?

Also are these for the front fog/driving lights?

Check your ground wires and where is grounds to the frame.

I guess so. Just not enough. Not sure I understand the question. How could it light up if it didn't? I'm clueless when it comes to electrical and carburetors. But I know not to mix the two![:0]
What I didn't realize before (because I had the switch in the on position and was just hooking/unhooking the battery to check the lights) is that the lights are constantly on and stuck in hi-beam now. I'm going to check to see if the relays where wired correctly tonight. I'm guessing they are not. The new harness came completely pre-wired I just had to plug in the relays. So they could definately be wired wrong. I had only checked to see if the wires where making proper contact before.

I would check on the grounding first. When I installed the kit I grounded the lights to the pod mounting screw.

The relays in the kit are very flimsy so it could be a bad one. The red wire from the relay to the battery is a fusable link by the way.

You might check to see if both the high and low beams are on at the same time in the bright light. This could be cased by a grounding problem.

Craig, What I was saying was from your pic, it didn't look like the hi was on on that side. Is it getting power to the hi beam on that side.
But I agree with the census, do ground check first.

Ok secured the ground better and that gave me 2 high beams and no low beams (or maybe both at once but I can't tell). And an inability to turn the lights off! When hooking up the battery the lights where off and then hitting the high-beam switch would turn them on but not off. Then when turning the light switch off the pods would lower but the lights stayed on. I checked the original harness and everything was working properly.
Convinced the relays where wired wrong I downloaded the schematic from the mfg website and with my poor understanding of electrical proceeded to change the wiring. Hooked up the battery and no lights but pleanty of smoke! Mostly from the steering column, but fried the original headlight harness that the new harness plugs into. Thats no big deal since you only need one with the new set-up so I can use the other, but on testing the wiring I now have absolutely no power coming from the switch. The main switch still works because all the other lights still work, but I'm pretty sure I fried the hi/low switch. Now I have to order a new one that I needed anyway cause the tab was broke and I had to manually hold the hi-beams on.
So I have screwed all this up and am no closer to figuring out why this system is not working properly. Wonder if I fried the relays now too.
Will be back with more questions once I get the new hi/low switch installed and replace any necessary wires. Untill then I guess I won't be driving at night.

I labeled it according to how they where originally wired in the harness. Shouldn't they be wired opposite (left to right)? I mean the picture has the switch on the right so shouldn't that mean that one goes to the switch? That's how I re-wired it and cooked everything. What am I missing?

Well all is not fried. [:)] Main switch is good, and hi/low switch works for low beam only. But the headlights still do not turn off. Back at it this weekend.

Yea, kinda sounds like one of the relays stuck in the on position(points welded themselves).

Grasping at straws ????

Yeah did that, no change. As it is right now the high beams are on constant (even with the main switch off) until I push (and hold cause it's broke) the stalk forward and that turns the lights off. I will change out the relays for a new set if a new hi/low switch doesn't fix it. I needed a new one anyway. Main switch works properly when tested at the plug under the steering column. Even though the main switch actually turns off, something else is powering the lights through the hi/low switch...I think. If I unplug the purple wire from the back side of the hi/low switch the lights shut off so that's how I'll be driving it for now. Turn signals work normally.
This was supposed to be a simple plug and go project. And on paper it should work! [:(!]

All better. Just had to replace the turn/dip/horn switch. The headlights are much more effective now! [:)] And as a bonus the turn signals cancel properly now too. [:D]

So everything was down to the high/low/horn swith being buggered? That's a relief! I have the same package from VB waiting for a time when I have nothing else to do. Good luck with that.[:)]
