Bizarrely enough most UK gen TR8's are described on the log book as 'two axle rigid bodied sports cars' I believe. If it says TR8 on the log book this may be a re-imported USA TR8 or a case of someone convincing DVLA to change the logbook. This is pretty much impossible now but a few years ago is could sometimes be done. Therefore I believe that there are a few conversions out there with TR8 on the logbook (buyer beware!) Anybody know any more about this? Anyway, if this is so, it makes a monkey out of the TR8 figures...

Good info that correct both of my cars don't show up either TR8 or TR7 Sprint so the list is out for genuine TR8's.

It was possible in the eighties to get the log booked changed to TR8 and for example Dell lines cars built from a new shell were registered TR8 so could be picking up these also.

I went to view a (TR8) registered in 1986. I didn't want to upset the old chap but it was nothing more than a TR7 which he had converted and at the time convinced the authorities it was now a new build TR8.

For his troubles they gave him a nice Q plate.

I assume thsi is all UK registered cars ie. Swansea and Northern Ireland, or just Swansea?
Still a few TR7s knocking about NI...

The figures I have are UK cars. The figures quoted on the web link referred to in this post are wholly inaccurate so don't take any notice of them.

I am not an advocate for the website I posted, however I understood the data was from DVLA, out of curiosity I have run a check for 2010 on the DVLA website, for vehicles described as TR7/8, licensed in 2010, data for 4 quarters (there is a table for sorned vehicles too which I did not check)

So looking at quarter 3, July to Septemeber 2010 when most cars where licensed there where only 1265 TR7/8 on he road.
I did not find data for TR7 Sprints

That's more like it Andy. Fortunately with the numbers of vehicles currently off the road the figures are even more healthy. This explains why the TR7 models are amongst the most prevalent at general Triumph days. If the figures of that web site were accurate we'd hardly see any.

Not sure where the figures are coming from on this one as there have been at least 2 TR8 automatics on the road for the past 10 years and I recall meeting a third and fourth from time to time (eg Billing).
