Seat sensor

I'm redoing the driver's seat on my 1980. The wires just fell off the sensor on the seat bottom and it looks too fragile to try to solder or repair it. Does that sensor just trigger the seat belt buzzer, or does it interlock with the ignition? I hate that buzzer, so I won't miss it one d@*mn bit, but I want to be able to start the car!

There just for seat belt duties. Mine is not connected !!! and its legal to wear a belt over here!

Can't recall ever hearing the buzzer before I re-covered the seats, think it was just a light came on in the dash!

Over here it's a flunk at the MOT test if the seat belt warning (buzzer and/or warning light) is inoperable
- in cars so equipped. And the TR7 and TR8 were so equipped...

its my understanding that only us cars had the buzzer, my friend mikes us tr8 definatly has buzzer and annoying it is too. everones tr7 should have seat belt warning light

On US cars the seat sensor turns on a buzzer when the belt is not buckled and there is weight on the seat. We also have a seat belt warning light that comes on. I think it is triggered by key position. It times out after 30 seconds regardless of what you do.

Well the sensor must have already been dead, because it made no difference when I left it disconnected. The cursed buzzer still goes off and the dash light works, so I'm just going to leave it alone! But I've got a nice looking blue tartan seat now (that is, if you can call the blue tartan nice looking...)

The sensor is a rubber mat under the seat foan. If the buzzer is on full time, disconnect the sensor by pulling the connector under the seat. You will still have the warning light but no noise.

The buzzer and dash light just go off briefly at startup, like their supposed to. I pulled out the buzzer unit once because it was so irritating, but there was a cascade of other electrical things that stopped working. So I plugged it back in; everything started working again. I may just put some duct tape across it to reduce the sound level.
