Wrong Badge?

Postby prlee » 01 Jun 2011 18:09

Went back to work today after an extended bank holiday, used the TR7 as usual.

Lunchtime popped to the local store area in Evesham, as I left a nice red TR6 drove in, I looked at him waiting to wave, he seemed to be avoiding eye contact and looked the other way[:(].

Nearing home some 40miles later saw a Spitfire coming towards me, so flashed my lights - no response [:(][:(], maybe he didn't see me!! or was just hanging onto the steering wheel [:D]

Odd because just outside Evesham today saw an E Type coming in the opposite direction, I am sure he waved, I was too stunned to wave back.

Also I have started seeing a MG Midget on the way home and he always flashes and waves, often MGB's will flash and wave.

Does my TR7 have the wrong badge?

Hi Pete,

I don't think its your badge i just think its other drivers being iggnorant [xx(],

I flash and wave at every classic car i see regardless of make and the majority of the time they do respond back, but there is a chap who owns a purple stag near me and he wont even acknowledge me if he sees me on the road, so i dont even bother with him anymore.[:)]

Hi Stan, never had a problem when in the Spitfire - even Midgets wave (as they disappear in the rear mirrors [;)])

I am pleased to see so many classics though.

I had just parked my car in Great Canadian Superstore (when I first got it on the road) and a red TR6 drove past and he gave me an acknowledging nod and I waved.

That summer I passed an MGB but didn't notice if he waved as I passed him like he was standing still. (I was in a hurry to get a good parking spot at our car show that day).

My neighbour always waves as I drive past but that's all he can do because his rear axle fell out of his otherwise immaculate MGB.

Had a bit of fun getting on the m'way, one of my chaps was in front in his Lexus, couldn't resist passing him as we accellerated. [:D]

Did get a bit illegal for second or 2.

heck , I always wave or give the thumbs up to anything that catches my fancy and usually get a cheerfull salute back!! [8]

Actually my TR has been getting a fair amount of attention lately for some reason, even ha a couple of ladies tell me the car was "pretty' the other day at the gas station.

I was most surprised last weekend at the british car show, when on of the long time members of the local (mostly TR6) Triumph club came over to see me and <i>suggested that I really should reconsider joining their club</i> as they would like to have some "wedge" owners join them !!

~~~~ I'm debating it ............
I don't think we have the snobbery thing in Oz, at least not in the under A$100,000 older car scene. I even swap waves with MG Bs, & even old Holdens.
I am finding out about what attracts most attention as well these days, with my little fleet.
Peugeot 306 Convertible, very little, unless raising or lowering the top.
Honda S2000, only the occasional real enthusiast who knows what it is.
Ford Capri, [Oz built 2+2 convertible] a little from someone who wonders what it is.
TR7 quite a bit from a wide range of people.
TR8 a hell of a lot, particularly in service stations, & shopping centres, especially if they have just heard it idle in.
I definitely don't think badges have much effect on the public in Oz.
When a bunch of MGs on a club run stopped in town recently, it was interesting what attracted attention. The later Fs & TFs were ignored, & the Bs did not attract much, but a group of TCs, TDs & TFs were surrounded by the public, as were a couple of As.
Better news today, this evening coming home into the town a couple of blokes out walking saw me, one pointed at the car with a smile and then they both gave me the thumbs up [:D]
Feel better now.
Couple of weeks ago just outside Evesham where I work I had to fill up, the young guy seemed very impressed with th TR and asked what the car was. So all is not bad.
My 7V8 gets more attention from the under 20's because they like the styling, love the noise from the sgle pipe exhaust but don't have a clue what it is. The kids know what they like since they haven't picked up earlier prejudices.
Even when they read the black decals on dark blue paint (not easy to make out sometimes but I like it that way) I get the answer "what's a Triumph then?".
It'll be interesting to see what reaction John's V8 had on his local TR Register group. Are they still stuffy over a 30 year old car?Mine had next to no interest or welcome in the 90's when I converted it.
Hey Stan...
" but there is a chap who owns a purple stag near me and he wont even acknowledge me if he sees me"
That's because you called his Stag purple...it's <i></i>magenta<i></i>,or so I was told at a car show last Friday by a <s></s>purple<s></s>er,<i></i>magenta<i></i> stag owner,LOL!
Was amazed...been going to this car show for a few years now,and last Friday was the first time I'd seen another car like mine there (granted,it was a TR8,but I'll let that slide[;)]) This is a pretty large show too,and some of the most unusual vehicles show up there.
