I just wish there was a way to make the darn boot cover the entire lever, and not leave that darn 1 inch of rod and bolt exposed....

Think I'm gonna have to send that shifter out for a shortening [;)]

yes last time I talked to Woody about this , I'd have to send mine as he no longer has any cores....seems not everybody sends back their originals if he ships you a shortened one first.

I meant to do this over the winter, but got sidetracked with other stuff, now that the driving season is here, I son't want the car layed up..........

I still owe him my core. A got a shortened shifter for x-mas, along with new shifter bushings. I still haven't found the time to put them on the car. I want to get it done soon.

I like the throw of the shifter.....don't like the look of how it sticks up above the shifter boot. Looks very unfinished. I don't know if I'd like a shorter throw, it's something I'd have to try on another car to decide. If it would easier access to cigarette lighter to plug in the GPS that would be another plus.

Thinking about shortening my gearstick too, would stop the vibration of the chrome ferrule, and look better.

Yeah, I know, replacing the shifter is easy. I have been putting it off until I could get around to doing the bushings at the same time. I have a lot of play in the thing right now. If I can get a break from my homework maybe I can tackle it this weekend. It might help restore my sanity a little. Finals are coming up in two weeks, then I have 10 or 11 days off before summer quarter starts.

I would have thought the local garage would cut and reweld the gear lever for little or no cost at all.

S&S cut down and put a new thread on my 7's gearstick when I collected the S&S conversion kit from Ramsbottom.

Obviously the long throw of the standard gearchange becomes shorter but it makes the changes feel more direct and snappier. It looks better for it too.

However, if you think the change from 1st to 2nd is awkward when the gearbox is cold, it's magnified with a shorter stick. You just have to be even more patient. It's difficult to find the gears normally when the remote housing bushes start to fall apart. 1st was almost impossible to select with duff bushes, but after fitting polybushes to the housing all the changes became very slick again.
