K&N filters

<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2"><font color="blue">I have just treated myself to a new pair of K&Ns. Do these usually come ready to use or do they need oiling before I put them on.

Also, how long I can expect them to last before they will need cleaning and oiling again.

When i got mine Mac i was advised to oil them before use, as for how regular you will have to do it depends on how many miles you do.

I usually do mine every 6 months regardless of wether they need it or not.[:)]

Only use a small amount of K&N oil, the filters i've seen literally dripping do no favours for performance.

They should be ready for use when you get them.

Cleaning an re-oiling depends very much on the conditions under which the car is used.
I usually clean and re-oil them approximately every 50.000 km.
But take them of a few times a year to tap of loose dirt.

I do mine once in the spring and once in the fall,so yeah,I guess maybe every 6 months?

Over here (USA) the ones Ive purchased in the past had came pre-oiled/ready to use.

<font face="Comic Sans MS"><font size="2"><font color="blue">I phoned K & N direct today (found their number in a Motorway Service Station - don't ask!) and they said as long as the filter is a nice reddy-pink it'll be okay for 20 000 miles/2 years from new.

You're probably right Johnny,though the lot I keep the cars in gets pretty dusty in the summer,and living in the city in general I think it is more than a little dusty,yet less than a lot dusty. I dunno...have had them on for some time and they seem cool,or at least an improvement over the stock box![;)]
