not the usual dipstick tube question ....

Postby silverseven » 20 Apr 2011 01:51

Well here we go .....like a fool who should have known better !

While I was working on replacing my gas line rubber hose near the carbs I had to remove the airbox and move the dipstick tube out of the way, which didn't appreciate the movement and cracked in two when I positioned it back into place.........arghhhhh!

The length is not a problem as I can measure mine, but is there a type of hose that is more compatible than other to use??
I was thinking fuel injector hose would do the trick, but could it break done or contaminate the oil if exposed for long periods of time???

I used petrol hose, assuming that if it was perol resistant it would be ok for oil.

Am I the only one with a short little tube that barely projects out 5"? I have to reach down under the carbs to pull the dipstick. My cars a '75. I guess the longer tube was put on later cars.

No, I've got a short Dolly dip stick [:I], & tube.

When you dispense with the box air filter, you no longer need the long one to be able top reach it.

Ol' yeller had a short dipstick. The Iguana has a clear hose.

While we are on the topic of hoses, has anyone found a good replacement hose for the power assist? Mine keeps collapsing under the vacuum.
