Mini bits but could be useful?

Postby Laird Scooby » 19 Apr 2011 18:46

Hi All,

some time ago i bought a universal rear fog lamp for my trailer. Turns out the place i bought it from (was the cheapest on ebay at the time) is a Mini spares place. Now i know this forum is about TR7s, but some parts do cross over, for example halogen headlight conversions and i believe the column switches (indicators & wipers) are the same too.

Then again, some of you may have a Mini lurking in a garage that you need bits for so here's the link :

http://www.ukclassicparts.com/

Hope this is useful for someone!

Cheers,
Dave

Headlights yes, except that you do not need the sidelight built in, but most places do the option. I think brake pads are also the same but not sure about much else. Note the TR7 column switches switched sides in about 1980.

They do the option of with and without pilot light in the halogen conversions and they also list left hand right hand indicator stalks too as the Mini also change about 1980.

Just thought it might be useful for someone to have a second source for things like headlamps etc.

Cheers,
Dave

Hi,

1275GT & late Classic Mini Brake Pads fit the Wedge - that's why the brakes are inadequate on a 7.

The 7" headlights are shared with many British cars of the 70's and 80's. Mini, TR7, E Type Jag & others all share the same headlights. The standard items have the power of 4 candles. It's frightening in a car faster than a Mini 1000, go for the Wipac halogen conversion or similar.

The window winder handles are exactly the same as the Mini. They work fine.

I believe the door mirrors are the same shape as the late 70's / early 80's Minis. My 7's are black, the Mini's were chrome and the base's are different.

......and yes, I'm restoring the rustiest injection Mini I've ever seen, but I live only a few miles from Minispares.[:)]

If memory serves they are only about 30 or so miles from me as well, not that i've actually been there but been to the surrounding area enough! I think on some Minis, the mirrors were black casings (Mini City comes to mind?) so they might look ok on a Wedge. Personally i want a pair of round "bullet" mirrors, either chrome or black depending on things like body colour etc.

Cheers,
Dave

Nice videos.

Many years ago I saw a red Mini van fitted with a Rover V8. Front engined, rear wheel drive and there wasn't much space for the driver or passenger either side of the gearbox. I think this is it....

Hi

The great thing about BL cars is they used bits from other models, parts bin donors, should do a 'sticky' on interchange able parts list,ie heater parts SD1 and Ambassador, switches and lamps, handles ect ect

Doing my apprenticeship at a BL garage and eventually ending up a Master Tech think i carried out every poss job on Mini's, i have the scars to proove it !!!Not to mention the bad memories of trying to get the clevis pin and slpit pin in and out of the clutch or brake master cylinders[:(!], if anyone wants you to change either of these (if no servo fitted) DONT
Even though the Metro was a more practical car we still sold loads of Mini's remenber all the limited additions?
Mayfair, Sprite, Wimbledon ( full lenght electric roof ) 25 and 35 aniversary, Rose (pink roof and trim) for those in touch with there femanine side, loved road testing them [:o)],Sky had blue roof and trim ect ect. Worked on a few ERA turbos, they were put together 100 yards up the road they were bl88dy quick.

I passed my driving test in next door's Mini Clubman, my wife's first car was a 10 year old Clubman. When a mechanic got to see it he said that every panel had been replaced apart from the roof. It still rusted away though.

My Mum had 2 automatic Minis, gutless and then they rusted away.

Nothing corners like a Mini though. Great fun!!
