Should have taken before and after photos of the difference in brightness.

Funny, Just did the same thing to my sons coupe. Didn't start out to clean, I was trying to solve a water leak but as I removed lenses noticed how dirty the interior of the housing was (should have taken a picture 1/4" of mud) after cleaning and painting it's like day and nite. Now I'll need to look at my own tail lights. By the way, the car sat out in the rain today and trunk is dry.

What i do is very similar...I usually buy the new lens/housing gaskets first, then disassemble the rear lights. I clean everything up real well. Repaint with the same or with Eastwood lamp coating. Then, polish the lenses, inside and out with a good polish/cleaner. Followed by a coat or two of Maguires gold wax, and reassemble everything with New bulbs. When cleaning (after washing car) I use Plexus to keep the lenses' really shiney [:D]

Something else I wanna add......I am in the process of re-doing my tailights now. I have opted to use nylock-nuts as opposed to the originals for reassembly. This way I can be sure the lenses/housings ae tight and secure without the fear of over tightning.. [:D]

Rather not use nyloc nuts as these studs tends to break out if you put an little to much torch on them.

Its simple really, as I tend to take my time with my wedges...ran all the nylock nuts down over a appropriate-sized bolt. Cuts the threads into the nylon, but will still hold firm without backing off/loosening up. Then when assembling, I only ran em down enough to securly hold the tailight evenly all around, without the need to over tighten.

I just pressed the plastic lens firmly against the car to squish the foam gasket and tightened the nuts by hand using a socket. I'll check to see if they need any tightening in a month or so.
