I'm sure it'll sound fantastic at 6000rpm[:D] You should be proud mate, it's a great achievement and good on you for sticking with it. Did you hit the "wall" at any point?

Rob, what has the training involved?

I hope it has required you to travel over a skid pan and experience front and rear brake lock. I also hope they gave lectures and instructions on how to avoid a highside during fast cornering.

At the time I got my licence (1987) I only needed to do a U turn and emergency stop in front of the tester to pass.

There is no doubt this was in adequate. I only became a competent rider through experience and this would have been better learnt in a controlled environment, rather than a the public roads.

I wouldn't say hit the wall Rob, i have tried to do the best i could with the budget and resources i had so yes i am very pleased with the results.[:)]

I must admit i did get a bit fed up when after 3 days of trying she just wouldn't start and i could not work out why [:(].

But thats all sorted now [:)].

You guys started to worry me about that water as a temp coolant so i have just been into the garage to drain it all out, as when i did the engine i fitted a drain tap onto the block so the system could be flushed and refilled every 6 months.[:)]

Hi Marsu,

The training is thus...

CBT basic machine control including the slalom, emergency brake (at what ever speed you choose) clutch control (or how to slip it to go slwoly) getting the bike on and off the stand and half a day riding out on the road on a 125cc honda. They also tell you about how much skin comes off at 30mph if you're not wearing the right gear along with other safety based info.

Theory test. 50 questions which include several video clips where you have to click the mouse button when you think there's a hazard, and click it a second time when you think the hazard has changed into somthing which may involve you stopping, swerving or generally taking action. All the other questions inc maintenance, machine control in high winds, carrying pillions, rules of the road etc etc. with practise this was easy, i can see how a lot of people fail it though!

Mod one....(Suzuki GS500) Slalom and figure of 8 until the instructor is happy you can control the bike at slow speeds. Pushing the bike from one coned area to another whilst completing the observations. Riding through a speed trap at over 50kmh (about 32mph) swerving off line through two cones and back in line and bring the bike to a controlled stop. Riding through the speed trap again at over 50kmh and completing an emergency stop when the instructor raises his hand. All maneoveres apart from the emergency stop must be treated as if on the public highway so you have to do lifesaver checks etc. This is in a compound and it's amazing that although it sounds simple, nerves get the better of some people and they fail. The guy that was with me failed this one after clipping a cone on the swerve test, he now has to wait 4 weeks to retake it. That day was his 50th birthday and he wasn't happy. i tried not to celebrate too much[:D]

Mod two is a ride around town whilst followed by an instructor. He gives you directions over the radio and you have to act on them whilst carrying out your obs and remembering to use the bus lane! Also there's things to catch you out, apparently he will say "at the next roundabout i want you to take the third exit. The idea is you then look over your right shoulder, indicate and move over and then you find there's a hidden turning on the right. i can't remember how serious it is but it's something they'll mark you on! They don't get you a skid pan, that would cost a lot of money! but for the record i spent 18 months on various mopeds and a Z250 and locked the front wheel many times by accident. And i locked the back wheel up on purpose[:D] oh to be 17 again.........

so far this has cost a small fortune[B)]
