We all have a moan about Rimmers but..........

Have any of the other suppliers invested in such an extensive website as theirs complete with on-line pictures from the original parts books?

Do the others offer online ordering for virtually every 7 & 7V8 part and does it still work at midnight?

Cox and Buckles, Moss or whatever they're called now told me 20 years ago that Rimmers had taken the lead for 7 parts as they had invested ahead in 7/8 parts when no-one else did. Hence Moss had entered too late and couldn't compete.

A well known restorer (since sold up) also had a moan since Rimmer's didn't give trade discounts and offered a flat price to everyone whoever they were.

On the other hand I still prefer Robsport (it's a cracking 40 mile drive in the 7V8 to collect parts) and S&S occasionally. Rimmers attract my money when they have one of their sales on and I need a higher priced item, such as the uprated m/cylinder & servo I bought a couple of years ago.

If Rimmers are too pricey then don't buy from them.

Hi,

Robsport or S+S Prep are the one's for me, not only do you get great service but expert advice from people who know our cars. Plus a brew when you are there [8D]

Had the same problem with calpers are Don had, posted them back to them, had to pay postage [:(!] and the replacement still bl88dy leaked [:0] !! Had to rework the to put bluntly the cr4p engineering of the spacer plate, never used them since [:(!]

However great catalouge, use that and order from the other guys!!

A lot of the parts sold by Rimmers as remanfactured are actually commisioned by another specialist i have on excellent authority

Cheers John

Rimmers supply other suppliers, I have found that parts supplied by other people at cheaper prices originate form Rimmers.

Rimmers are key in the survival of our cars but you dont have to buy from them directly to get the best price.

It appears the moral of this tale of woe is;

Victoria British is the American equivalent of Rimmers, and vice-versa.

When it comes time to buy a part, order two or more since the prices will always go up. When the new part wears out/breaks, your spare will be there in the parts box. And, think ahead when the Winter Sale occurs for those items you will need next Summer.

Guys,

A 5 to 10% increase is one thing. That is just the cost of maintaining stock over a long period of time. But a 20-40% increase overnight? I don't know of any industry (other than perhaps our wonderful oil barons) that could do that without outraging their clientele.

As many here have said, I can always take my money and shop elsewhere.

Hi, Interesting debate on suppliers. Here in New Zealand (under down under) parts are pretty hard to come by, (unless you know Jolyon). I have used Rimmers because of their user friendly web site. Their service was fantastic, parts arrived within a week. Also S&S and Moss sites are quite hard to follow, I guess I should get on the phone..........[?] I find the Wedge Shop really great too.
By the way, how do you load those signature pictures of your cars and by-lines?

Cheers, Ewen

Yep, that worked, now how about photo's please, anyone?
Also, do I need the top tank for my Radiator? I'm looking for an uncluttered engine space but want to retain my SU's. My engine is a P6b(older Rover V8)
Cheers, Ewen.
