Rear Lamp Cluster Earthing puzzle

Postby prlee » 01 Apr 2011 19:43

Put the TR back together today for the summer.

I am puzzled - I refitted the rear lamps and they worked?

Ok, as far as I can see there is no earth from the lamp holders, there are black wires in the loom that seem to be connected to the lamp studs.

So I fitted the lamp units, did not connect any earth and all the lamps work.[:0]

Why? how are the lamps earthed?

right in the middle of the tail light housing is a male electrical connector. That is where the single black wire attaches.

I have noticed the stud and thats where the rear cruise lamps are earthed, the connectors on the loom are eyelets not spade so never went there, I thought they were for earthing the rear lamps but they worked anyway.

Might connect them together.

The eyelet connectors are usually put between the nut and the washer on one of the cluster to body keeping fasteners...
