Rimmer (aka. Rip Off) Brothers

Postby Vegas_M » 31 Mar 2011 02:09

Wow, I was just on the Rimmers site. I missed the last sale by a few days, but looking at their pre-sale "retail" prices from the sales brochure to what they retail on the site now... Oh my G*d!

Some examples (VAT in):

Wheel Arch pair - Presale 63lb, post sale 80lb
Headlamp pod - Presale 35lb, post sale 77lb
Gearbox Mounting Rubber - Presale 16.4lb, post sale 18lb

Looks like their prices went up by 20% - 40% across the board.

Oh well. You snooze, you loose.

You'll usually find cheaper prices at Robsport or S&S Prep. than their sale prices (on last flyer). Good website though.[:p]

Bit unfair this really. They are not forcing anyone to buy anything. It should be borne in mind that price is not the be all and end all, maybe they have to be dearer to pay for their better website / service / products.

I have to point out that I have no particular allegiance to Rimmers (I buy anything from anywhere) but to knock them on an internet website is, I feel, unfair.

Peace and love,

Andy.

My dealings with them have been mostly good. I had a problem with the brake kit I got from them. Not to get into the details but...it was a good 5 years after the purchase because the project got stalled a while.[|)] Even so they looked at the records and made it right free of charge.

My larger problem is shipping to the states, not their prices.

Rimmers are there when you need them especially when you can't be bothered to shop around for better prices. Their investment in their website is a major factor in the business they get from me just because it makes buying the right part so easy.

I think Rimmers give a good service I was after a part and could not get one from them, one of the other places managed to get one but wanted 3 times as much I waited another week and Rimmers had it back in stock at the correct price.

Being in business I can tell you that the decision to increase prices is not taken lightly because of the risk of decreased sales.

Sometimes there is no choice though because the business has to remain viable. Every business has differing overheads so some can offer products cheaper than others. Some sell at rock bottom just to stay in business which reflects badly on ones charging the 'right' price.

How would we feel if we heard the news 'Rimmers goes Bankrupt'? So many businesses going to the wall and so many job losses these days.

As my son would say.. 'we just have to suck it up!'

Steve

We don't have the pound sign on our US keyboards in Canada (not sure about the "Canadian" keyboards which are actually French (Canadian) and only used in Quebec except when especially ordered for say French immersion schools and some government offices).

I always denote there British currency as BP, British Pounds (Sterling), as opposed to the abbreviation for weight.

Yes there is but it's too convoluted to make it worth while.

Simple way is to use an ASCII character.

Hold down the 'alt' key and type '156' in (use the number key pad NOT the numbers above the QWERTY line). Then release the 'alt' key. You should now have a £.

I wish I had a £ for every time I used the alt+156 keys.
