Grinnall re lived? got bored watching TV

When I saw the red Grinnall for sale I thought wow nice side shot... so of course I copied it and was a bit bored while watching TV tonight and this is what happened.

Stretched Nose between windscreen and wheel arch
Rear wheels moved back
10% larger wheels and arches both front and back
Lowered roof line by 15%
Reshaped rear deck and lights to match front and give modern rounded look
Elongated doors and window, 2+2 maybe?
Very deep sills to give the hunkered down look
Smoothed and raised swage line

Definatly not perfect but it did keep me busy for 1hr

Yeh, you got to raise the top or be peeking out over the top edge of door/dash. Other than that, very good.

OK, raised the roof line but it looked a bit odd so I cut down the angle of the back window to match the windscreen which gave back the fast look to the top. I laughed when I read the comment aboout peeking out over the dash! I'm only 5'6" so I always do that! How high the top is was never realy a concearn for me, unless maybe it were only 6" high.

Great work - looks lovely, very inspiring.

Made me wonder what it would look like with the sills aligned with the axles, so made some adjustments:

Roof height is better. The higher sill line makes it looks husky with a low centre of gravity and different. The lower sill line is more conventional and probably is in keeping with some design principle. I kind of like the higher one as it different than what you would normally see coming out of a design studio.

Actualy I think I like that better. Looks more proportional than the look with the deep sill. Humm Maybe we should all drop Ideas and we could mail it as a groupe effort to BMW!

One can always dream, even if it has sub titles.

Good idea - come up with a new "Shape of things to come" - A TR9?

I'm imagining AWD through 4 x 200kW electric motors, solar panels on bonnet and boot lids, multiple modular battery packs in low centre under bonnnet, floor pan, doors, B pillars, etc.

I get confused by AWD. Can someone explain how on an All Wheel Drive system the spare wheel comes into play? [:D]

Get with the times Peter - there's no spare (5th) wheel is this concept!

Run-flats can be very heavy though and feel weird. Many sports cars these days don't come with spares or run-flats. They do come with a can of fix a flat and a mini compressor though. Not joking. They also recommend some sort of roadside assistance coverage in the owners manual and factory literature. Spare tires are so 20th century don't you know.

That looks very clean and would have been a good replacement as the 1982-1989 TR7/8 with an aluminum block, EFI, Sprint turbo engine and Rover R380 transmission. Not differentiated enough for a TR9 though.

OK another boring night on TV so I played with the front end. Like I said before I'm not that great at this so i couldn't smooth out the edges of the fenders as much as I would have liked for the rounded look I wanted but you might get the idea.

Lowered roof line
smaller mirrors
enlarged front air intake
larger louveres
smoothed hood but kept the center buldge for the retro feel
raised wheel openings
wider front end overall
hidden wipers
widened the front lights (thinking twin projector lights that only open 3-4" ?)
