What would you think of seats done like this?

Postby Bendder » 19 Mar 2011 02:10

Apart from the crapy cut and paste what would you all think of some seats (not these in particular but similar) done with red check inserts?

Nearly did it myself a couple of weeks ago, even bought the seats, Porsche Clubsports, the centre pads are all removable on velcro, they just didnt suit the car so had the originals redone and very pleased that I did.

dont like the style of the seats but i did think of doing something simular before i changed the car ie have new seat upholstered with the tartan but with a modern twist or seat type

The style was not realy relevant. I picked those seats because the picture was reletivly face on so I could do my crapy crop job. He, He. But yes it was more the idea to see what a modern seat would look like with the 70's style added to it. I have to admit that if I found a seat that I really liked I might just do it.

One of the things that got me thinking was I just received my red/blk check material from Jim (2 meters) looks great and It will allow me to get on with my custom luggage project as well as trim the boot if I can ever find the right red carpet to match the interior floor.

The seats remind me of blow up vinyl seats with seams heat sealed. $2.00 in a plastic pouch found at the General Dollar Store.[:)]

If green & black check was available I would do my Corbeau bottom cushions to match the door panels I am keeping in the car.

FI Spyder, That made me laugh. You are right though that they are reminiscent of those blow up PVC things, just a bit to shinny but I think I kind of like the red stitch.

Michael, I think those Corbeau's would look great like that if you could get some material.

As far as liking check pattern or not I guess that is just a personal thing. I must admit that I have never really been a fan of it BUT... out of all the possibility's I think my favorite would be BLK/RED check.

What's funny is,I have those seats currently in my Mustang, and I have the black/red tartan covers awaiting install on the 7![:D]
Three things I will say:

1-The racing seats are VERY COMFORTABLE!!!! The stock seats I had in the Mustang were the upgraded orthopedic ones with the inflatable bladders for lumbar support and adjustable headrests, but those black seats are just awesome in comparison. That being said...

2-Unless in a FHC (and maybe -even if- in a FHC),I think the seats are a little too modern/not in character w/the rest of the car. Of course, everyone's tastes vary, and that is just my own thought. For a starightforward seat swap though,I think the early 3-series BWM leather seats in tan or black really look good in either a FHC or a DHC. And finally,

3-I like the idea of putting the tartan as an insert in a modern seat- I just don't know what seat out there would work best! Will have to think about that one over the weekend and get back to you guys.

Apart from the mind blowing power of our slant 4s, I believe the best thing about our cars is the ergonomics, including the most comfortable seats I have found in a stock car, since the blow up seat in my 62 Morgan +4.

Not only do they hold you in place beautifully, I don't think there is another car I could do 1100Km in a day, & still walk, straighten my back, & write a letter, immediately after stopping.

Make sure you try a 7 with seats in good condition, with the rubber diaphragms, before you change to something else.

10-4 Hasbeen. On the way back from Sacramento I drove for 10 hours stretch and the only reason I stopped is because I couldn't hold my eyes open any more as the previous 8 hour sleep didn't make up for the 42 hours before that where I didn't get any (sleep).
