He's expecting to get a lot for the car... <blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Century Gothic, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">Deposit of US $2,000.00 within 48 hours<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">.

I wish him luck.

No rust on wheel wells that I can see but turrets are suspect, might just be dirt. Needs total restoration. If the unit is low mileage and underside has no rust...... Those wires hanging out from under dash doesn't bode well for unbodged wiring by PO's. It would have to be at it's very best that the pictures would allow. I'm sure the reserve won't be reached. It's the kind of car that would have to go under a fine tooth comb for $2,000.

That's a real early car, looks like it has the very early bonnet (hood) stay, air con as well. Apart from the late type air filter box it looks original.

Seems to be expecting a lot for it though.

Tony,

I would suggest going by the parts catalogue that USA / California cars would have the late air filter box along with the stronberg carbs / emission equipment.

If that was on this side of the pond I'd snap it up.
We could do with some rust free early shells brought back home.
Should of been Born in the USA as Bruce Springsteen would say.

Hi,

I am with Roy, would love a early car but would keep it bog standard to compliment my TR7 V8. Bit big to get back through as hand luggage [:o)]

Cheers John

Ah! yes, well spotted Jim, of course US cars had that air cleaner from the start, although I think California cars had a different system in the early years with a round filter?

Still, just makes this one even more original then[:)]

Yes, the early California cars had one carb (76 HP) so this is a federal car, if it is indeed from Illinois I would want to check the under carriage real close.

Is that a ding back of the B post, level with the door handle, LH side picture?

May I confess something? My 1975 TR7 (#5160) was the biggest PITA I had ever owned to that point (and since then too). I think back on that car fondly now---and my brother still drives it---but I blame that car for me losing my hair :-) Seriously, I think I fixed everything on it 3 times in the 8 years + that I owned it. Ah, that 4 speed, wasn't fond of that, or the time the windshield wipers broke in a freak snowstorm or the lights just quit working on an unlit, moonless night in the mountains. I will say that the car sure gave me lots of good "stories" if nothing else. These days they're fond memories but if I think back on it, that car nearly killed me a couple of times. If I hadn't driven a TR8 and gotten bitten by the wedge again, who knows?

But if I could pick it up for $500 and somehow not let the wife know about it??? :-) If nothing else, I'd probably just be happy to sit in it and remember the "good" times!
