Merseyside Fire & Rescue service has instructed chartered surveyors Hardie Brack to sell two properties.

Staff have moved into Merseyside Fire & Rescue's headquarters in St Anne Street, Liverpool, after the properties became surplus to its requirements.

The first property is a 28,000 sq ft warehouse on the Triumph Trading Park in Speke, near the Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue service used the property to hold fire prevention workshops.

Mark Hardie, from Hardie Black, said: "Whilst this property is some 40 years old, it has been well maintained and periodically modernised by the fire service, providing their workshops until recently. Interestingly, this is where the original TR7 sports cars were made."

Hardie said the asking price is £550,000 but rental deals for an appropriately strong tenant would be considered.

Thats a nice counterpoint to the now almost universally accepted mantra that the unions and workers were the sole cuplable parties responsible for the demise.

It just reiterates what I've always said...you can't take a longshoreman and turn him into an automotive craftsman working on an assembly line, there just is no history of a sense of pride of workmanship. Oh, by the way, my uncle and cousin were (retired) longshoremen.

Interesting reading. When I cut thru the fancy jargon, what emerges is the act of a bully, one Mr Edwardes.

Recalling from my memory is the reason our cars became weak sellers was the management decision to use that cheap plastic/nylon plug in the top of the thermostat housing in conjunction with a 192 degree thermostat for U.S. E.P.A. emmisions regulations.

The plug couldn't take it. POP!!!! and WHOOSH!!!, went the coolant! WARP!!!!, went the head! RINGGGG!!!, went the phone at the dealers service department to send a wrecker to come get the car. Where did the resale value of a used TR7 go? It disappeared like so much steam from under the hood, (bonnet).

That's why sales of new Triumphs dwindled. It was because of that damned plastic/nylon plug. The quirks of the one headlight up, the other one down were minor in comparision to warped heads. The buying public faded away.

What's left now, some thirty five years later, are we few stubborn curmudgeons who discovered a truly great car and are able to sort out it's foibles in a cost effective and efficient manner thru a common communication device, i.e., this forum.
