Excellent question, and I'll be watching for an answer too.
You never know until you need them if the insurance company will stand behind you.

Someone said recently, if something serious happens, call your lawyer first, then call the insurance company.

I'll be watching this post.

Ok I haven't needed to actually use my insurance, thank goodness, but I have been very happy with Grundy Worldwide for my TR7 insurance. Cheap rates, full collision coverage and they did an agreed value policy just from pictures. They agreed to a $6,000 value right away, which made me think I should have gone higher, but I'd definately be able to replace it for that so I'm happy.
The only restriction is that it can't be used as a daily driver. It can certainly be driven every day but just not for things like work, school, etc.
$120 per year.

Zekow

I have American Collector Car. Have had them since 2005 without having to use them. Like state in another post you get replacement at an agreeed value and that is how the cost is based.

Car can't be used as a daily driver and they would like you to stay at or below 2500 miles a year. They wave that if you plan on a club event that will take you to California and back. A couple years because of the events I went to had almost 5K on the car for the year. They do ask, at renewal, what the odometer reading is. Have never ask why or raised the rates except for inflation.

Generally speaking if you go with collector car insurance you need another daily driver. This is not a bad thing if you have room in the garage/carport/street for two vehicles. When one is out for repairs you can drive the other one. Saves lots of money on car repair labour costs.

If the daily driver is a cheap car with cheap insurance you can save some real bucks.

Generally collector insurance is cheap (they recognize you likely have spent a lot of time on it and won't drive it like a hoopty). There are restrictions that vary from company to company like: can't drive it to work or school (that's what your daily driver is for). That way you're not driving it when you're likely to have a road rage incident in rush hour traffic, show off to that line of sorority sisters/ cheerleaders/ cute girl in chem. class etc.

Sometimes the mileage is limited as pleasure use should be less than daily transportation. Sometimes the car which generally has to be approved has to be visually original with limited period upgrades with sometimes exceptions for safety items like brakes etc.

If not going the collector insurance route (Hagerty, Grundy etc.) best to call around to see what's available locally for a daily driver type insurance. When you have couple of lower quotes Google them and see what others say about them.

Another Hagerty here. Pretty simple - I tell them the insured amount & miles driven per year & they give me a price. I did have to send them a few pics as well. I'm not sure how they would verify the miles driven as I have never had to report mileage since I first purchased that insurance.

I just use my regular insurance provider , car is insured as third vehicle 2 way coverage , fire theft ect. My car's insured for just a little over 10 grand and it costs me a tad of 200$ per year.

I used to cancel the road insurance over the winter months to save a few bucks, but haven't bothered for the past couple of years because the paperwork hassles.........

That's similar to mine Ron.

Mine is with Shannons, a classic car insurer, full comprehensive, agreed value of A$8,000 full usage, choice of repairer, & I retain the wreck if written off for $203. It is the cheapest to insure.

The 8 is similar, with agreed value of $18,000 for $335.

I now use the classic insurer for all the cars, as they are cheaper than general car insurers, but the the moderns cost about double the 7s insurance. For example the Peugeot at value $12000 costs over $500, & the Mazda 2, at 15,000 costs just over $400.
