having just got the v8 and this standard car i can confidently say the v8 has much to much power for this sort of weather [:D]

If you'd driven a Wedge V8 in loose snow - you wouldn't doubt his statement.
Too short a wheelbase combined with small wheels and far to much torque for the combination
- just don't function in snow or on ice. I've tried it,
and decided hibernation is the only option for both my TR8 and dads TR7V8...

It is possible but not necessarily fun. Light throttle application and using a higher gear than normal to keep the revs low will get you through. Even then, too much throttle will upset the mix quite rapidly.

Odd, how do you find a stockish 7 in the snow? Is it still to hard to drive, without the power?

I have never had a 7/8 down to our snow country, but I expect it would be a lot like some of our dirt, [so loose, they are known as bull dust] back roads.

I've not subjected the 8 to any of those either, but I did once do 75Km on one of these in a rather gutless US spec 7.

It was about as much fun as you can have in a car that's moving. At 130/140Km/H just a little throttle had the tail sweeping out, but so controllable, I felt like I'd died, & been reincarnated as Fangio.

I have always felt a 7 on snow would be something like that.

I've found that the TR7 goes quite well on the light fluffy stuff with a little extra weight in the trunk. But not so well once it's packed down and icy!

I've only driven a 4 cyl TR7 off season once - and that was on hard packed snow.
Felt as slippery as my '8 does in summer rain...
I think it's the short wheelbase that's acting up, once it starts slipping with the rear axle
it's, well - loose... [8D]
Sure, it can be FUN (for a while, but it's tiresome if it's all the time) but it's definitely not SAFE...
One risk suddenly loosing it - and run that car into a tree trunk or a stone or house - or person.

In the fluffy stuff i found the stock Tr7 quite good and surprisingly the Company Insignia SRI in only slightly compacted snow is an absolute nightmare it just will not grip tracking control turned off makes it surprisingly is better

In fact it's better in reverse but at some time you need to face the right way and then it's back to being useless

The 7 was actually better on the slight hill just off my road [:D]
