I grew up in Manitoba (20 years) and lived in Calgary for 13 years before settling for good on the west coast. I've seen 14 foot high snow drifts as we took the team and sleigh into town, been skating on the drainage ditch on Halloween, experienced -80F wind chill, and driven on flat bottomed frozen tires that go thump, thump, thump. Thanks but I'll take my rain and mild weather and one white Christmas in ten.

The white on white picture looks good though.[:)]

True statement Don. And Merv, maybe divine intervention is also why my white TR6 lives in white Alaska, and my green TR8 lives in green Oregon. And I suppose one of our southern neighbors will point out that it doesn't have to be a choice between snow or rain. That constant sunshine gets so annoying, though.

I just wish that my lot had been big enough for a larger garage addition. I recently visited a friend who built a barn-like fabric and steel structure behind his house for his Jeep collection. But getting back to the original thread, his barn is uninsulated and impossible to heat here in the frozen north.

Your 6 looks like the '71 I used to have. The hardtop made a huge difference in the winter. I also had a '69 that didn't have the hardtop. I found dried mushrooms under the seat of the '69 one summer. I didn't have a garage back then.

I grew up in central Iowa, my first car was a '62 Spitfire. It had a hardtop but it also had gaping rust holes in the floor and foot wells. The heater was at best anemic. I had to bundle up pretty good to drive it when things got down below 0F. I saw -20 and -30 several times in my youth.

As much as I'd like to drive the 8 year round, I'll have to settle for my Nissan Maxima or the wife's Subaru at this time of year. Heck the 8 still doesn't have a top, heater, or windshield wipers.[:D]

My thermostat is set at 40* to keep my supplies for work from freezing and my heater was running a lot

I did say "rarely." We only got about an inch or less of snow and it was gone in a couple days. Yesterday was above 50F and we had over an inch and a half of rain. Usually it takes days to get that much rain.

Jim,

My first car was a '57 MGA. Plenty of rust from those rainy western Oregon winters and no garage. No rust in those floorboards, though - they're plywood. But lots of rot. Talk about a mushroom farm when it rained!

if I have pinpointed your address correctly - don't you have a large marshy area, down
towards the sea, you could expand into? Behind the house as seen from the street area...

Odd,

I think you must have me mislocated. No marshy area; there is a forested area east of us toward the mountains, but it is used by the Army for artillery practice!

Hey, I wish I did have the big marsh down to the sea, although there's a rifle range in one end of the marsh. And then there's the drug dealers up the street. A guy can get himself shot around here if he's not careful...
