Brake Rebuild

I know this subject has been repeated too many times. But, first the search on this site is the ONLY thing on "The Best Triumph TR7/8 Forum On The Net" that I really don't like. It simply wont' work.

Anyway, back to subject. I have the front struts on the bench, ready for brake rebuild. Not shown is the new rotors. Everything will be new and mostly stock TR7 except the Green pads.

Where do I start? Does anyone have a step-by-step guide?

One questions is how do I get the greenish goo off the spindles?




Is there an O-Ring for this spot? I can't find one in my rebuild kit?

That greenish goo is Cosmoline, or some other waxy / petroleum based preservative. I take 'less than large kitchen pot sized items' and simply boil them in the kitchen in water (in a pan that someone in the house WON'T kill you for using). The stuff dislodges and falls away.

Boil it in water - it will dissolve.

And yes, the search times out for me every time I use it - you simply have to sit and be patient and when it times out, hit retry and the results will magically appear.

Wow,,,you took your calipers apart. I prefer to replace the piston seals etc. without doing that. Not sure if there's a seal there but maybe someone who's taken them apart can say. I think the prevailing wisdom is not to split them, probably why there is no part listed if there is indeed a seal there.

ive taken my apart , there is a rubber o ring in there , but the manual states that you shouldn't take them apart. Since there isn't any record of required torque to assemble them . I think any o ring that is higher than that hole will do, and that won't dissolve in brake oil. At least thats what i would do.

Do we know for sure that it was a rubber seal and not a crushable copper washer like a banjo bolt?
I've been everywhere looking for an appropriate O-ring and not having much luck.

The car is being rebuilt from the ground up.... see under the V6 part of this forum..... My White TR7
Plus, you can get a glimpse of my engine, rear axle, and a few items in the thread near this one about how we heat our garages.

So, I've rebuilt the strut, actually awhile back, but now I'm in the mood for brakes.
