Removing Grip

[jclay (RIP 2018)]

How do you remove the grip on the hand brake handle? It is not covered in the ROM.

By twisting & pulling, from memory. The only thing that keeps mine on is friction. (All said with a straight face.)

In the Haynes workshop manual (page 151, console assembly) they make it sound simple...Raise the hanbrake lever and pull off the grip.
I tried for ages... pulling, pushing, twisting even tried warming it up with a heat gun and it didn't move one bit [:(!] [:(!].
Maybe there is a secret knack to it...two twists right and one twist left then pull. No! tried that aswell [:I].
I gave up in the end because I could see myself ending up with one of these [B)].
I know someone is going to come on here and explain the easy'n'simple way, but that won't stop me feeling like a [:o)]. [:I].

I would think that if you use a heat gun or a hair dryer on <font color="red"><u><b>LOW</b></u></font id="red"> power just enough to expand the plastic to be able to inject w-40 in between .
That should allow you to pull it out with out to much work.

I used a rag to protect the rubber and stillsons to grip and twist it, there's no way i could of pulled it off with my bare hands[:D]

Nice one Rob.
Wrapped a cloth around the hand grip and used an adjustable spanner to twist it free. It was still tight to pull off though.
Easy when you know how [:I].
I didn't even need to get the hand grip off today, it's just the fact that I failed last time and it's bugged me ever since [:D].

No worries. It's one of those jobs where you're not sure if brute force and ignorance is the way forward. Usually when taking that approach you end up with the sound of snapping plastic revealing a hidden screw and claret all over the dashboard[B)]

It actually comes off huh? Wow... And all this time I thought it was a misprint. Now, I guess I need to come up with an actual reason to remove it to see...[:o)]

Just got back from chauffeuring the wife around, buying Christmas presents for the Grand kids, and buying paint. Couldn't get it loose with a shop towel, so just laid bare channel locs to plastic. Gave it a twist and with a loud "Crack!" it come loose, Kinda'.

It is off now, with some extra groves in the plastic, but the whole idea was to remove it so the new one can go on. No harm!
