Clutch reservoir moss

I took the cap off the clutch reservoir and shined a light into it. To my dismay this is what I found. I've had this car a few years and have topped up the reservoir a time or two but never looked at it too closely. What is that stuff? Looks like moss.

I've seen this before when a system wasn't completely flushed of old fluid, and new fluid was poured into the system on top of the old, but to be honest I was never sure what it really was that caused it. I simply flushed the system completely and moved on - cautiously, since I had no idea what it was...[:0]

Haven't got a clue what you're talking about is there is no image available ("this image has been moved or deleted")...

I've seen black deposits (black fungi spores?) but never any moss.[:o)]

That's what I was wondering. Maybe somebody mixed DOT 5 silicone with DOT 3/4 glycol?

At least it's not the brake system. I'd just suck it out with a turkey baster, flush it with a whole bunch of fresh fluid, and hope for the best.

Could indeed be caused by mixing different spec fluids.
As suggested suck it out and flush the system thoroughly.

It's possible I mixed the silicone with regular. I remember the last time I added I went to great lengths to check what type it was but in the end I could not determine for sure so I used dot 3.

Silicone is purple, never seen it any other colour. Pretty hard to confuse it. I still think it's growth from spores from outer space that feeds on brake fluid.[|)]
