All year round motoring usually makes up for living here at the less fashionable end of the world. Salting the roads is a motoring obscenity!

Stored my TR8 and my wife's Sprite on Oct 30th. They winter at a friend's father in law place twenty miles out of town. I couldn't gamble with the weather any futher as it would kill me to drive out in salt. But of course this week the temperature is +14 celius, with the normal being +2. Then again we could have foot on the snow and with the windchill -25 next week. You never know at this time of year.

The cars are in good company as there are three Lotus, a couple MGBs, Stags, TR3s, Morgans, TR6s and two TR8 coupes a couple of TR7s. It is like British car heaven.

I make a couple trips during the winter to visit to get my fix.

Video on youtube please! Just don't let her know and you'll be okay [:p]

And - she may not notice the new big brakes - but she will notice the new big rims, especially when she's stood on the bench[:D]

No no. Car goes away BEFORE the first snowfall! The salt sucks here too! The TR7 lives in the garage so putting it away is not much of an event.

Years ago when it was my only form of transportation I did drive it during the snow a few times and I would have to say that it did suprisingly well. Not great, but better then expected. I remember waiting at the bottom of a 1/2 mile hill for another car (80's Camaro) to clear the top (couldn't see the top due to a bend in the road). Once I started the car climbed right up no problem, even got a thumbs up from a Hi-Lux going the other way, (plenty of weight in the trunk) untill I came upon the afore mentioned car that was stopped sideways just before the crest. I was less then happy about that. Had to stop and needed a push to get going again. On another occasion I was cruising right along on what I thought was nice "grippy"[:)] snow and low and behold next thing I know I'm spinning on ice into a snow bank.[:(] No car is good on ice! That must have been 1992 and the car hasn't seen snow or salt since.
I think the narrow stock tire size helped keep it moving well through the soft snow.
My uncle, the previous and original owner, sprayed the bottom of the car with a generous amount of that DIY undercoater stuff when he first got it. So I'm fortunate to have a minimal rust Speke car. The fact that it was usually sitting in his garage broken didn't hurt either.[:D]

It is killing me that my TR7 has to sit outside for another winter. The TR8 has the garage and since it is not running, I can't move it.

The nice thing is that went it freezes here, the state and city use sand on the roads instead of salt. The heater doesn't work for some reason on the 7 and I have just not wanted to pull the dash apart.. So, I can drive the 7 anytime I want as long as I bundle up.

Sorry, guys! [:D]

Before mine was pulled apart to restore, I always drove it rain or shine. It did well in the snow. I only had an issue once, and it spun on ice in a nice circle, cracking one of the wheels made of unobtanium, It only took me three years to find a replacement for it[V]. I'll admit that in the dead of winter, a coat AND the heater was nice when the draft came creeping around the seals between the convertible top and the rest of the car, but it's a blast to drive.

If you're putting your car away for winter at least it means you were lucky enough to drive it in the summer! Mine's been of the road for 2 years, but I'm looking forward to the spring when all being well I'll be putting it on the road again. [:)]

ok... explain to us north-easterners just how bad could a Texas winter be?????

(and just for the record...don't get me wrong I'm not bitching here about the cold weather, I'd much rather have snow than hurricanes....so you can keep those all to yourself [;)][;)][;)][;)])

I too have laid up cars and boat for the winter. also cut the grass one last time this past weekend and revoved the cutting deck from the tractor and installed the plow on the front and blower on the back so it's ready for snow. I can't say I love winter but i will take advantage of it. so like I said away goes the car and boat and in came the snowmobile and cutter sleigh for the kids to ride in for some winter fun!

My TR7 is my daily driver year round. I am at the point of dragging the snow tires out of the attic for installation next week. They are predicting lots of snow this year. Fortunately for us our idea of lots of snow is nothing like what the rest of the country gets every year.

This is about as bad as it gets here most years, and usually only for a week or two

My wife forgot to tax her car last month so has been driving my diesel daily this week - so I have been using the 7 in the rain, minor floods and high winds, good job I can park it inside when I get to work as the roof has more holes then Tetleys finest! I will carry on driving it unless it snows, then I run out of ground clearance!

I dont think we will have a problem with salt on our roads this year, with our councils turning off the street lamps to save money (yes, honestly!!) we will be lucky to get a luxury like salt (or any police to investigate the inevitable collisions)
BTW
My drophead is safely tucked up the garage until next year now

And you can see that slushy snow melting away already.[:)]

Actually what I heard/read was more precipitation....rain here but snow for all parts east (that's the rest of the country/continent). We'll just have to see.
