Have a great Targa & come back in one piece.

The Targa NZ finished this weekend. It's a whole week covering much of the North Island. Before the start I spent a couple of hours with a mate who had entered his old 924 helping him calibrate his new Tripmeter. I haven't heard from him so I assume he's down a bank somewhere in the sticks having turned 20M later than the notes indicated. [B)]

Have spent the last long weekend up at Merrijig, near Mansfield.
This looks to be quite a big event shaping up. A lot of drivers where already there for the following weekend, driving courses etc.. If you can make it go....
Will see you there[:p]

Sorry Muzz but I am already back home in Adelaide! (now Saturday night).

We <i>were </i> there, but had an axle/diff problem in Prologue which proved to be terminal - so technically we never even started the event as that run was just a 'Spectator' stage and not counting towards anything.

Were taking things relatively steady being just the Prologue, took a right turn, small dip on entry, big clunk at the rear then a horrible noise from back there.

Had the car checked out by a local mechanic hoping to get going again but to no avail, found the axle splines on the drivers side were stuffed. The mechanic was all set to phone around his mates to track one down but even though we use an HSV axle assembly the axles have been cut down/custom made for the car so even if he'd gotten one it would have been no use. [:(]

So two 9 hour drives, 2.5 days of hard recee, and a <u><i>few </i> </u> dollars for not a lot really - motorsport can really suck at times! [V] [:(]

Our mates in the little Cortina are still out there taking part.

Note:- If it looks cold in the pics, that's because it was! At the top of the mountain the cars had ice on them in the mornings, -3* rising to around 3* in the afternoon - not been that cold since I left the UK.

Cheers Peter,

As you could imagine we were totally gutted, just when you think you've gone through everything with a fine tooth comb something else pops up to bite you on the butt! (still don't know what the car's like with the new engine/gearbox combo!?)

Having looked at the failure, we believe we have a good idea as to what's happened but I cannot say too much at the moment - watch this space as they say!

BTW - very nice tow vehicle you have there. There's a lot to be said for getting to and from the events in comfort.

Just got back myself Neil.
I think I saw you heading toward Bonnie Doon about 7am on Saturday morning. My heart sunk. Still saw the other silver seven running around, flying the flag.
Hopefully it will become an annual event.
We have a shed up at Merrijig where we stay, 2 mins from the pub.
It really is fantastic country up there. The weather was fantastic.
Motivates me to finish our car and run it next year.
Next time you come over give us a hoy, I'll even buy you a beer.
You know the mt bullet hill climb/sprint is on in a month?
Worth the trip?

BTW:- Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the Mt Buller Sprint has been cancelled this year, it's on their website - Mountain Motorsport.

PS- Marsu, yes, makes a pretty good team car, great for comfortable long distance travel and towing the race car, then dump the trailer and it becomes the recce car! (TDV6 Rangie Sport with Brembo's and all the other good bits)

That's on at the end of this month?
Friday at Winton. Saturday at Buller.
I heard that one event got cancelled, thought it was this one and not the mt. buller sprints

2 events in one month is good for me.
I wondered how they could fund 3 events so close together when I first found out.
