2 Litre Markings

Postby jclay (RIP 2018) » 10 May 2008 15:46

I have seen the "2 Litre" side plates mounted behind the door down low and in front of the door about 1/2 way up. Which is factory correct?

Also, the round Triumph Medallion that goes on the front, was it used only on the 1981 cars?

What year cars got the "BL" logo on the front wings?

My '2.0 LITRE' badges are about half way between the top of the cill and the top of the wing, level with the top of the wheel arch.
The small round enamel badge to the front was fitted to Solihull manufactured cars.
Sorry, don't know about the BL badges.

Hi Jclay,

The 2 litre badges were always in front of the doors, on the rear part of the front wing.

The round Triumph medallion badge was used on Solihull built cars which would be April 1980 onwards.

The BL badges were on very early cars, not sure of exact dates but our guru Chris Turner will know I expect[:)]

The exception being (there is always at least one) is the Solihull made Spiders which retained the red (non-reflective) laurel leaf through out it's production which I think ended in Sept. 1980 and sold into 1981.

The top of the 2 litre badge is 27 cm above the sill trim. It is 3.5 cm away from edge of the wing.
I think the reason the Spider had the laurel leaf is because the decals were applied in the US not at the factory.
The BL badge was fitted from the beginning of production until the end of 1976.

Hi,

Thank you all for the info. I am tired of being beat at VTR judging by really ratty TR7s just because they are original.

At one judging, a blue TR7 drove in to park for judging and the muffler fell off before he could back the car into place. The other TR7 at the show was a Spider, but when you opened the hood (Bonnet) everything was covered with east Texas red dirt. The Blue car took 1st, the Spider took second and my spotless TR7 took third. The judges told me that I lost points because the rack was missing, the wheels were changed, the mirrors were wrong and the carbs where not original.

So, I am spending a lot of time and money to change everything back to original, but it means finding all the parts and setting everything up properly.I have never liked the laurel leaf, so I want to use the medallion on the front. I have found a set of TR8 Alloy wheels I am going to use instead of the Panasports but I am having to get them soda blasted and then I will repaint them. I am getting a set of Stromburgs to replace the Webers, and putting on a new top. I have already put a rack back in place, but I have painted it semi-gloss black.

Now I just have to find a set of decals for the back in Gold, the ones with "Triumph" on the left rear and the filled-in "TR7" on the right and order an original set of mirrors from Tex. And new waist seals from Robsport. Should I change out the radio . . . ?

You're joking right? While original TR7's are getting rarer by the minute, most judging I've seen is by popular vote unless you're going to the concourse type meets. Most people don't know an original from not unless they are TR7 fans. By putting on the hood badge, wing badges, etc. to a 30th Anniversary Edition or any 1980 you won't win any points for originality by the concourse types. I don't see the point. Depending on your objective either go for originality or go for the custom look that turns you on.

(IMHO)

The 30th Anniversary Edition was the same price as the standard TR7 covertible with $900 options free.

It had side stripes, polished aluminum wheel rims and centres, stereo AM/FM radio/cassette, front fog lamps, chrome boot rack, padded black leather steering wheel (Made in France) TR8 wheel, coca floor mat, dash plaque with union jack flag (yeeeah!).

Doesn't seem to add up to $900 does it?
