TR7 targa?

Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

TR7 targa?

Postby tipo158 » 05 May 2008 19:52

I was reading the Wikipedia page on Targa tops. The TR7 (as well as the TR4) appear in the list of cars that have a targa top.

The DHC is definitely not a targa. The sliding roof would not make the FHC a targa, right?

Did anyone here add TR7 to the targa list on Wikipedia?

I don't know if anyone added Targa tops to the list, but two custon Targa TR7s do exist.

I am sure there are more than two custom TR7 Targas. There is probably a custom targa version of any closed top car. However, AFAIK, no TR7s left the factory as targas.

BTW, for reference, this is the wikipedia definition of targa - "a semi-convertible car body style with a removable roof section and a full width roll bar behind the seats".

The TR4 top would probably be correctly named as a surrey top. A club member has a TR250 with surrey top that he imported from UK (the top that is.) He got 1st prize in his class at All Triumph Drive In (ATDI) last August in Steveston.

The TR7 with targa top may be confused with project Braodside that had a rollover loop like the Stag. It was one of the preproduction or styling excercises.

Go down the page.

Certainly the TR7 lends itself to the targa design and Triumph used it in past models. An interesting project turning a coupe into a targa. I'd be surprised if someone hadn't done it already.

I believe that there is a factory prototype TR8 in the Haynes Motor Museum with Targa Top.

There has been a home-made one kicking about on ebay recently, no comment.

The Haynes Museum is just down the road from me - I really must get down there one day for a look!

So far then, from recent posts on here, they have a TR8 Targa & a factory 2+2 for me to see[:)]
