Almost there....

Postby mb4tim » 04 May 2008 21:12

I got the turn signals working. I got the windshield washers working. All that's left is the reverse lights (that did work until I put the shifter bushes in), and bolting up the new exhaust.

I'm almost ready for my state inspection!

Better make sure your clutch safety switch is working...I got an "advise" on my state inspection because it's not working.

Of course, there's more to this story, but don't want to hijack your thread.

I didn't know there was a clutch safety switch. I figured it was like my MGB and my old Yugo - no clutch safety.

Exactly, there isn't one. Never had one, never will. But the inspector swore that it had to have one, and even went through my owner's manual looking for info on it. I thought about being a real sadist, [}:)] and offering to let him crawl under the dash and look for it. On the way home I remembered I had the full Bentley manual in the boot...he could have spent a couple hours looking for info on it in there![:D]

Tim, my reverse lights work, as long as I hold the gear lever hard
over. It stops when I release the stick.

Its been like that since I fitted the new clutch, over a year ago. I
know its an easy adjustment, but find it hard to get into the mood
to get the thing up in the air, just for that. I keep prommising
myself I'll do it next oil change, & always forget.

Shouldn't be so hard for you, as you have that first "real' drive as
an incentive. Good luck.

up in the air?? Naaaah, I park it over my service pit... I'm gonna try to get under there and meter out the switch to see if I yanked a wire when doing the shifter bushes..

Tim, the switch is adjustable.

Fitting shifter bushes will have changed the relationship between
the gear stick, & the switch. A couple of seconds with a couple of
small spanners, [8 or 10 mm I think] should do the trick. Thats why
its so disgusting that I haven't done mine.

Meanwhile, would you please stop boasting about your superior
facilities. You're likely to make the rest of us cry, & you know its
not nice to see grown men cry, [at least not in my vintage].

You can easily adjust the reversing light switch from the top, just take off the gear lever gaiter!

What does a clutch safety switch do anyway? Stop the engine being started unless the clutch is depressed I'm assuming?

Yes, that's what they are supposed to do.
