Battery Drain

Battery Drain

I did a search, but came up empty, as did my battery. Since it sits the garage, I keep a battery tender on the new battery.

I decided to have a bit of a test, and pulled the charger off for about a week, now the battery is dead. Is there a common area in these cars would run the battery down? The clock can't take that much juice!

I know the starter is a bit screwy, is there something there I can check?

Check your clock, and if that is negative check everything for a short to ground.

Have you checked that the boot light is off? It will drain your battery over few days and is not easy to check.

I'll pull the trunk light bulb and check in a couple days.

Tim,

I am sorry that I have not been able to move around, but I will get the door light off to you this next week. But, the purple leads that go to those door lights are always hot. Maybe one of those are touching the metal in the door and draining the battery.

I left my car for 2 months - clock running - and it started up fine! It's now been stopped for another 3 months - so this week-end will be the big test.

HowardB and JClay save the day. Thanks guys!!!

JClay called me and explained the metal tab that pushes the pin switch for the trunk/boot lamp.

Well, I pulled the boot lift struts to measure them up for replacement. The opposite end of the pin that retains the end of the strut also holds the tab in place. So, it was hanging limp as a dead chicken.

I pulled the connector form the switch since I don't have the replacement strut, and killed the boot lamp for the moment.

I'll check back in a couple days to see if the battery is still charged.

If you think that the boot light is on, it is easy to check.

With the boot lid & doors closed, tip the door light up and then all the way down. If it lights in both positions, then the boot light switch is activated.

You have to try it in both up and down positions because some one might have installed the door light upside down.

I think since I only have one door light, that it might not work as expected. Once I get the light in the driver's door, I'll know.

Well, it was the trunk light! It started after sitting all since last night, without hesitation.

I actually get to work on it this weekend. Do a little fiberglass, while it's setting up, jump in the pit under the car and install those shifter bushes and an exhaust.

WOO HOO!!!!
