Wheel Arch Flares

Postby mb4tim » 31 Jan 2008 21:45

Does anyone know of a supplier of wheel arch flares for the 7/8?

I've had a couple customers ask, and I don't even know where to refer them, let alone make them myself.

I'm sure there are UK suppliers.

I know Robsport can supply them, fibre glass rally arches that is.
You could check out their website.

Rimmers does have an online catalog and an order system which is easy to use. (Unlike some suppliers)http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/rimmer/tr7/tr7indx
They also have a superb paper catalog which should be on every TR7/8 owners shelf as a reference book. It has detailed line drawings of every component of the car with part numbers.

Cheers,
Rich

Tim,

I think that I found exsactly what you are looking for!

Steve (from Club Triumph forum) has very good summary of three types of wheel arch flares:

http://www.croyde-bay.com/workstr7v8-re ... -paint.htm

Personally, I love the tarmac version!

Edit: I finally found the parts using part number from above (I couldn't find them through their site). They look reasonably priced. How much is the shipping cost to US on something this large?

What is VOT and do we have to pay it when shipping to US?

Sorry about that, Steve [:I]

I thought that I saw you here, but when I looked up “Steveâ€￾ username, it was someone else [B)]

What did you end up doing with those Tarmac arches? I am assuming that your original arches are cut away to allow for larger tires, do you have photos of what was done?

Thanks!

The wheelarch lip was rusty anyway...cut it off and weld outer wing to inner wing, not very pretty but then covered with fibreglass arch. The wide arches are not a lot of use as I think it takes at least 10" wheels to fill them.

As I understand it...For UK historic rally use the wheels must remain 13" (15" may be possible as I believe as they were homolgated but I'm not sure). 13x10 rubber is impossible to find apparently. Brakes must be period, not "modern", brake choices are limited too with 13" wheels.

The Works style "Inbetween" size rear arch which extends down onto the cill panel is available from Bert Smeets in Belgium. He has also had f/glass boot and bonnets, front spoiler made.

The Works cars used metal boot/bonnet lightened by cutting our the "ribs" I believe, the only fibreglass was arches/front spoiler however that was about to change I think for 1981, hence more f/glass items including "chevette" and stratos style lamp pods and a rear spoiler. TR7V8 rally program axed however.

As a replica, I have tried to keep my car accurate and in period. Most people dont worry about stuff like this but just put on what they like most.

Steve,

Fortunately for me, I am not bound by any type of historical and/or originality factors. My only limitations are the size of my wallet and the amount of time that I can spend on different modification.

With 400-700hp, I will need the largest possible tires that can fit in my TR7. So far, I have been looking at Huffaker style widebody kits, but they are extremely expensive ($1500-$2000 for the kit + another $1000 to install it and another $1000-$3000 to re-spray, depending on how fancy I want to get with it). That is $4000-$6000 for something that I can functionally duplicate for around $500! Plus, I happen to like the look of those arches (which, I understand is a personal preference).

The really painful part is going to be cutting up my current arches, which are absolutely mint! [:(] [V]
