That depends on what bumper you've got: The US or the non-US one?

I have seen the UK spec covers described as ABS plastic. Would that make sense?

Tony, I think you'll find that its the dash that is ABS. Thats the
same stuff thats used for TV housings, phones, hair driers, & the
like.

The UK spec bumper bars on my car are polyethylene, very similar to
the stuff tupperware [kitchen stuff] is made from. It comes in low
medium, & high density, & variations in between.

Most plastic welding people can repair these, if the damage is not
too bad. I had a corner of one back bumper repaired, [welded] after
a truck clipped it with his fuel tank.

The 8s bumper is a US made replacement, & is a different material,
but could still be a grade of polyethylene. It could also be
polypropylene, or even some type of rubber.

The standard way of recognising these plastics is to burn a bit.
Anyone who has spent much time in a molding shop can tell what it is
by the smell of it, when hot. However, I'm sorry, I'm not going to
burn the 8s rear bumper, so I can tell you what it is. Small minded
of me, I know.
