sound systems...?

Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

sound systems...?

Postby Orophin » 23 Dec 2007 16:19

I want to get a loud sound system in my car...and I want two extra speakers in the back somewhere. Where would be the best place to put them? I don't want to destroy the car too much. But I really want a good sound system in my 7..anybody done this? I figured wiring up a sub shouldn't be too difficult since most wires are visable anyway. But my only problem I can think of is inserting two back speakers. Or I could just uprate the front speakers. It's going to be a good summer![8D]

I was thinking of replacing the parcel shelf in my coupe with a speaker box as it looks like heck anyway. This could be done without modifying the car in any way so the shelf could be easily replaced if necessary.
As for the convertibles, I am sure a speaker enclosure could be added behind the seats and a sub could go in the boot.

This is what I have it is a modern unit but sits in beautifully It is wired up to my mp3 which is an iriver h140 ( 40GB hard drive ) which sits in the arm rest with the remote sitting just below the radio the remote also illuminates. I have fitted an extra power point in the arm rest so the mp3 is always on charge when in use.

I have been using the alpine sub for some time now and would recommend it

The only thing is like fastman I mounted it on the rear bulk head

like KRenken you can fit it under your seat when you sit down you can feel it under your bottom

But even mounted on the rear bulk head You can also have your seat all the way back without it interfering

But the sound out of it is superb you can have it just filling out the sound as I have

or just by putting your hand round the seat ( even while driving)

turn it up and have a very good thump in your back

.

Superb! Excellent idea, I will take out the parcel sh elf and make up a solid wood shelf for 6"/9" speakers. What are those alpine subs you're using? Do you just have one behind the drivers seat? That kenwood CD player dosn't look bad actually! lol Do they do them in beige?

Orophin-I have a Pioneer head unit and Pioneer 5 1/4 or 5 1/2 door speakers (I forget, and have the Mustang today[:I]),along with a MTX 200w amp and two 8 inch subs in individual boxes in the trunk. I have the bass turned off on the door speakers and all of the bass thru the subs, and it is amazing! I was afraid it would sound like those awful cars that have the tinny, rattling trunk as they drive by,but it sounds very good inside the car,and I didn't have to modify any panels or anything to make it work. I still have a decent amount of trunk space (the sub boxes are less than a foot wide/deep),and since the head unit face is detachable, anyone up to no good wouldn't know what was in the car to begin with![:D] This is on a DHC,so yours would prob. sound even better in a closed car,I would think.

Some people mount tweeters in the dash just above the two side air vents.

8" subs eh? Sounds cool. I may go for 2 10" subs. Pioneer are doing real nice speakers that a actually beige with grills over them, so I think they will go with the car. I will take out the parcel shelf, and make a new one up for 6/9's to go in and replace the door speakers, and get a nice pioneer head unit that goes with the car. Hehehehe

The boot works well as a sound box anyway, my boxed 10" sub is twice as loud with the boot lid shut.

( no richard, don't worry about the fact that you cant drive the car, fit the HIFI??????)

Hi,
I fitted a set of Kenwood speakers in the doors that are the same size but superior quality to the standard speakers, that way you can retain the square grilles.
But then i installed a b88ldy big V8,so that was a waste of time [:D].Like the idea of a sub behind the seat though.
Cheers John.

Right, sorry for bringing this up again. I've done a little homework on the sound system side of things, and the best sound possible would be to have 6.5" round component systems with lil tweaters a little bit higher and all this front stage, as in not behind the driver, but i believe this slightly impossible to put into the door panels. Am I right? 4" speakers to 6.5" is quite a jump! So somebody has mentioned that u can make custom fibreglass 'kick-builds' which...are mounted down by your feet on the side bit. I've heard using 6x9's are a waste of cash and rear mounted isn't a good idea sound-wise and attracts thieves.

Hi
Whilst on the subject of radio's ect, anyone see the stall in the second hall at Stoneleigh, selling what can only be described as covers in the shape of an old type radio face that clip over the front of a 'modern' set. When you park up you cover your modern set with the cover and this gives the appearance of an old orignal type radio fitted [:D] They were very convincing.
Cheers John.

I saw this DHC at the weekend and it had a couple of custom built pods with what looked like 6x9" speakers behind the seats. Finished off in the same leather as the rest of the interior it looked very nice, (sorry, the only picture I got of it!)

Too bad the guy with the blue car doesn't take as much pride in his front bumper as he does in his speakers.
