Hi,
Just recently changed to 20/50 wt synthetic oil. Now I seem to have oil coming out around the head at the block. Is this a sign of a head gasket getting ready to go?

Well, if you switched over from dino oil to synthetic, that's what usually happens. If the engine starts off on dino stay with it. I try to tell people this all the time. What happens is the dino oil over time sludges and varnishes up. It also blocks passages like leaks in gaskets as well. Because of the chemical make up of synthetics, these blocked pores now become unblocked and start leaking. I think its due to the esthers or something. But also, I think synthetics have more detergents in them which can do the same thing. I had this problem with my Audi and as soon as I switched back, the leaks stopped.

Funny,
There is just a thin coat of oil on the block, but nothing dripping on the concrete. Strange?

Yeah it seems to be just weeping.....mine did too. The clacking and leaking stopped when I switched back to Castrol dino oil.
