Phil, there are 2 Triumph clubs in Western Australia, the Triumph
Car Club of WA, & the Triumph Sports Owners Association of Aust, WA.

Try WWW.carsonline.com.au/triumph, & that should find them. I don't
have any contacts, as it's over 6,000 Km by road, from me, in
Queensland. They will probably have, or know of some for sale.

Try carsguide.com.au, which has 7s listed in WA, from tine to time.

Just remember, if you were to buy one in the eastern states, its a
long, way to drive to WA. On some of that drive, my 8 would not make
it from petrol station to station, on a tankful of petrol. There's
about 2,000 Km of nothing on that drive, plus quite a lot of not
much more, as well.

Sorry, thats the best I can do for you.

Here is a link.

This site has a few cars listed under Unique cars and one or two under ordinary listings. There are 2 in WA at present

I am not sure whether you can import a car from New Zealand and register it easily but here is a link to the New Zealand version of ebay

www.trademe.co.nz (Just search TR7 or TR8)

I bought my Tr7 in Perth about nine years ago, now. And then drove it over 4000km back to Alice Springs. Without a single problem! In fact the car just got better the further I drove.

Anyway, back to topic: There were a couple of garages that specialised in Tr7s in Perth, the one that sticks in my mind was Markich Motors. They are still in the phone book. Might be worth a call to see if they still specialise or have any leads.

Hi guys,
Thanks for this it has been a great help. We are moving over to Australia within a year and I was thinking of buying a DHC over there whilst bringing my loved FHC over. The only issue is that my girl, who can be seen in my pictures has not got AC, which I think may be an issue. I must admit that the condition of the TR7’s in Australia look better than mine at the moment lol.

Australia did not get the DHC, Triumph built TR7's in Australia but only FHC models. You will pay a lot more for a DHC in Aussi. The weather in Aussi often makes for rust free FHC cars though.

You can import a car into Aussi but be aware thet it has to have a mint body shell. Bad body shells can be refused registration to use them on the road.

Similarly, here in NZ there is a TR Register member from the UK who just brought his DHC daily driver over from the UK. In the UK it always got an MOT, here they failed it dramatically on rust and it will need a huge frontal rebuild.

To quote his email to me:

"I also have a Mark 1 DHC TR7 that I imported last year from the UK. Even though it was my daily drive in the UK before moving to NZ and it always passed it's MOT without issue, two months at sea now sees it too rusty to get through compliancing without major work to both front inner flitches and various other areas of the shell."

End of quote

This is why I was so careful with the TR8 I just imported, the body had to be straight (No poor repairs of accident damage) and no real rust. No problem to convert to RHD compared to Rust and totally replacing with new parts a poor repair to accident damage. I did not care about paint, fabrics and mechanicals.

Hi UKPhil.
One solution to your aircon issue could be on fleabay. Checkout http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/tr7-tr8-air-conditioning-unit-aircon_W0QQitemZ130162936002QQihZ003QQcategoryZ27383QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
The heater/evaporator assembly is the hardest bit to get hold of. If you get this one, then you're set. If you had this one fitted to your car, when you get here, you can source a compressor, condensor & fans that can be adapted from just about any euro or nippon rotbox from a wrecker. The new scroll compressors are smaller than older types & sap a lot less engine power. Hoses are made up by the same mob that will gas charge it for you & wiring should keep you occupied for a couple of hours. Original factory a/c switches fit next to the dash dimmer, maybe difficult to source the genuine, but an MGB map light switch or generic pull on push off switch can be made to look factory. A Holden VN V6 radiator can be fitted for extra cooling capacity. So it doesn't need to be an issue & you can do $95% of it yourself. Worth investigating!!!
Best of luck.
