Headlamps not raising: Pektron fault.

Hi,
Thought I’d share this one to add to the numerous posts on headlamp issues. The gold convertible is getting closer to being finished but on completing installation of the refurbished headlamp units we found that they wouldn't raise. Working through the wiring and components it transpired that a diode in the Pektron unit had blown. Luckily I found a good one in the spares stash. :D

Back in the day, we'd just stop into Radio Shack (they are no more), pick up the part and fix it. :D
Good thing we don't have pektrons in N/A.

Hi FI Spyder, no Radio Shack here anymore either but just bought a pack of 10 diodes off eBay for £1.65. For reference the diode in question is a 1N4001. So I”ll replace the diode and keep the Pektron unit as a spare. I didn’t realise you guys over there were lacking a Pektron

as I understand it, the pektron is used in the flicking of the lights (how ever else it affects the operation). we don't have that feature (requirement) in N/A so no pektron.

I rebuilt the pektron unit in my car, many years ago, and now don't use it.
It's purpose was to delay the lowering of the lights to allow for flashing.
As my car has driving lights fitted it's easier and sensible that the flashing duties are carried out by them instead of the headlights.

Not when you are trying to impress 9 year olds.
I used to flash my headlights (turning lights on and off with main switch) in parades when would come up to a couple of kids at curbside. Never failed to impress , surprise, get them excited and pointing as they had never seen something like that in their shot lives.

New diode soldered in place so this Pektron unit can go into my spares stash.

If anyone wants a set of circuit drawings which include full details to enable you to repairs Pektrons and the header tank level sensors, PM me & I will email you a copy.
Cheers
