Ive had 3 lucas brake pedal switches since Ive had my TR7, they are fitted to numerous BL cars and they are aboslute plastic rubbish! they don't last, you have no confidence in them, you are always checking you brake lights.
so today ive done a bit of internet digging, and measuring and I have sourced a much better made replacement, steel construction and the same 12mm thread so will fit straight into the bracket.
The part No is 464110010 manufactured by FAE and fits BMW cars and can be purchased from Europarts.

Does the bracket require a bit of fettling / bending to set the on / off point?

Nothing fitted and working in 30 seconds!

I replaced my defective Delco switch with a more reliable Lucas switch (OEM). Been working ever since. Always good to have alternatives though.

This is the inside of a brake switch I bought off Ebay recently and which went faulty in a couple of weeks due to burning on the contacts. Don't know what the metal is but very poor quality.

I recognise that metal, it's called: worthless Chinese shit.......I see all too much of it these days!

I've had two replacements which were similar plastic rubbish, including some with a Lucas label.

I now have this from ebay.

Looks a lot better quality with a steel casing. Only time will tell.

Further to my 2017 post, that brake light switch has now failed. Does anyone have any new suggestions?

In almost 30 years of TR7 motoring I have only had one failure of an original brake light switch.
And after cleaning it the failed switch functioned again, and still does over 10 years on.
Though I always carry two spares with me in the car, just in case ...

Well, Rimmers have switches ranging from genuine to aftermarket at £19.31 to £1.60 respectively, Mini Spares have the same part at £4.03, whilst the rest of the inter web has the same part sourced from at least half a dozen manufacturers, including Lucas, at various prices in between. It's a bit of a lottery.

My Intermoto boxed brake switch is still working Since '98 but as to where it was made, who knows?

Is that a puller of some sort in the middle of your grey tool box Beans?

alc59, I like the BMW one. Search for the part no. 464110010. The FAE one I got is a proper quality item and gives me confidence it will last.

Those are little tools to squeeze shut fuel lines. Handy when changing fuel filters or working on the carburettors.
