The closure nut that comes with the KYB insert is just a little over 50mm.

How did people install these with regard to torqueing the nut to the correct setting 81 Nm?

I just did it tight with a large pair of stillsons IIRC. Don't forget to punch the dimple to lock it, I did and keep waiting for it to come undone! In this day and age maybe threadlock would be a better solution.

Did mine with a large pair of stilsons, and touch wood so far so good.

If you're that worried about the actually setting these might be ok for a single use http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/14pc-Large-Cr ... xyDEVSc2r5

After securing the bottom in a vise (in such a way that doesn't damage any parts) I just tightened it as much as I could with a pipe wrench and 2' extension bar as much as I could using Loctite on the threads. That was in 2011.

When I fitted my KYB front struts I tightened the nuts with a pair of stilsons as well, and then punched the dimple in to lock the nuts, about a year later when the car went for it's mot there was movement on the drivers side when we checked the nut had come loose, so this time I used Loctite threadloc then retightened again with the stilsons that was three years ago and it is still okay, so,I would always reccomend using Loctite on the strut nuts.
I hope this helps.
Cheers
