Starter motor

Returned from the TRDC National in the TR7 and on Monday the starter motor began slipping (lucky it happened after I got home!).
Took the starter off and the pivot pin was hanging out, and although it can go back in I cannot secure it. The starter still looks really good but you cannot buy the pin separately. The pin looks to be 5mm or 3/16" and can see Wickes sell 5mm steel rods and wondered if anyone has replaced the pin successfully?
I have installed a new starter but would like to have the original as a spare.
Cheers Paul,
1976 TR7 2.0 FHC, ACG 2367 - Carmine Red (on the road)

1977 TR7V8 4.0 FHC rally car, ACG 35005 - Tahiti Blue (complete, no MOT)
1976 TR7 2.0 FHC, ACG 3115 - Java Green (now sold)
