Why the hell???

Here’s where to discuss anything specific about your standard(ish) car or something that applies to the model in general.

Hello
Ignition timing is not related to a fuel pump.
It could be that the new fuel pump is suplying more fuel then the old one.
If that's the case you shoud adjust the cabureteurs a bit(less fuel)
An other reason for black spark plugs can be the starting the engine and let it run for a while then shut it off.
If you do that frequently the spark plugs get dirty(black).
It's better to take the car for a short drive so the spark plug burn clean and the engine reaches it's normal temperature
Kind regards Ilja

I would say your black plugs are just down to stop start use of the engine - without it ever getting up to temperature. If it's running smoothly now - well done !

With the fuel pump, I didn't mention it at the time as it must of been a month or so since I fitted it and from that point up until now she was running fine. Made me wonder why literally over night she turned into a bag of nails.
Yep she is running sweet now so I do not think I will mess too much with her, nice to hear her going so well. Think she will need another tune though to make sure she is set up correct for the new pump. Also I will keep an eye on the plugs to make sure they never get that black again.
Would love to be able to take her out on a long run, but she had not got the MOT yet so starting her up now and then on the drive is the best that I can do for now. However, in March when she does go for the MOT that will all change and she will be on the road. Thanks for all the suggestions about this guys.
